Low Price Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 2.7-Inch Vari-angle LCD

The camera I got with this package is absolutely great, however all the accessories and extras were not. I would be weary to purchase a package like this, from this company at least. You would be better of just buying the camera, and then get anything else to go with it separately. Don't make the same mistake I made. I will say that the customer service was outstanding. I told them I was unhappy with the quality of the accessories, and they sent me additional items to make me happy.Get more detail about Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 2.7-Inch Vari-angle LCD.

M1031-W Network Camera Small Size Indoor Network Camera Order Now

I purchased this product on Amazon in Early Feb 2010 and I followed all instructions trying to install it. That's when all the issues started.
1) Camera was not detectable on my wired or wireless network so I decided to call AXIS customer service. Note that they do not show their customer service telephone number anywhere on their site and I had to Google it. After waiting for 40' someone picked the phone up and helped me fix the issue (after spending another 45' on the phone with him) by resetting the camera multiple times.
I hanged up thinking that the camera works.
However, 5' minutes later my network dropped. I reset the network and a few minutes later it dropped again. (My wireless network has dropped 2-3 times in the 6 years that I have had it set up) To make the long story short, the network kept dropping because of the camera. Once I disconnected the camera, the network was working flawlessly.

2) I contacted AXIS customer support again and after about 20' someone was on the phone helping me adjust the camera properties. We hanged up 1hr later (i had to restart camera, network, and desktop multiple times) thinking that the network and the camera works. However, a few minutes later the network dropped again. I contacted AXIS again, and they blame my network instead of the camera.

To test their claim but mostly also to cover my immediate need for a WiFi camera, I purchased a Panasonic BL-C230A and both the camera and the network work flawlessly since then, without any assistance by any customer service dept.

After identifying that my network is fine, I contacted AXIS to return the product and they say that it's my network's issue and not the camera's, when obviously there is nothing wrong with my network. I contacted the seller (Gizmosforlife) and they say that they cannot do anything. Next thing I am gong to do is contact Amazon directly.

HOWEVER, I would not recommend this product or any Axis product, based on their customer service by denying that the product works perfectly. My Panasonic works fine, and if you can save yourself time and frustration, don't risk with Axis. Buy another brand.Get more detail about M1031-W Network Camera Small Size Indoor Network Camera.

Sony Alpha DSLRA500 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body only) Buy Now

I have had my a500 for a few months and am very happy with my purchase. This is a great camera for someone wishing to switch from advanced point-and-shoot to full d-SLR. The menus are intuitive, and this camera is generally easy to use. It has some nice features like HDR imaging, manual live focus, and an amazing live view. I tested this camera with Nikon and Canon models in the same price range and felt this was the superior product. I also like that this camera has the autofocus motor inside the camera itself (unlike many similarly priced models by other brands), making it compatible with my 20-year old Minolta lenses. As you probably know, lenses are as important, if not more important, than the camera body so it's nice to be able to use older, reasonably-priced, solid glass. This generally takes nice low light shots although there is some noise at higher ISOs if you are really picky. This is to be expected from a camera in this price range. Also the kit lens is not the greatest, but this is usually the case with entry level SLR cams and I do feel that it's a lot better than the kit lens that comes with comparable Canons and Nikons. At any rate, I'd recommend buying the body only and picking up a used Minolta 50mm 1.7 prime lens (readily available and inexpensive). Then start shooting. I gave this 5 stars because it's great at what it is --- a starter SLR camera with some room for the photographer to grow. This of course can't compete with $2000-$3000 full frame models, but it has none-the-less exceeded my expectations. Great value. In general, I think this brand is underrated in the digital camera world. If you are in the market for your first d-SLR, give Sony a try.Get more detail about Sony Alpha DSLRA500 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body only).

Pentax K-7 14.6 MP Digital SLR with Shake Reduction and 720p HD Video (Body Only) Get it now!

Before the K7 I owned a K20D for many months, so the K7 is not my first Pentax body. I replaced the K20D with this K7 for one, main reason - size and shape. The K7 fits amazingly well in your hands. I am so confident carrying it that I almost never use a strap. I even walk up to a mile or two around my neighborhood holding they camera with one hand without any concern for dropping it. I loved the K20D, but the size of the K7 called to me. This is the main reason I like Pentax bodies and glass - high quality, but physically smaller than the other guys. I don't want to carry around a 5D Mark II with L glass. It's ridiculous.

So beyond size and form factor, the following things are important to me when considering my everyday use of the K7.

1) The K7 has a 100% viewfinder (vs. typical 96%). I can't believe models more than twice it's price don't have the same 100% offering.

2) Secondary small LCD screen on top of the camera. This is a must have for any serious-amateur-slash-semi-pro photographer.

3) Build quality and size - my K7 is smaller than any camera in it's prosumer class. It's built of a single piece of magnesium alloy and has 72 water/wind/dust-proofing seals. I can shoot in a downpour without worry. Many of the Pentax lenses I use are also coated with a weatherproofing agent.

4) Dedicated ISO, white balance and exposure compensation buttons are also on par with other prosumer cameras in its class.

5) Fast frame rates - my K7 is 5.3 fps I believe - helps capture the right image when shooting candids, etc. People's expressions change a lot in the course of a second.

6) 920,000 dot back LCD screen for high quality on-screen viewing of photos.

7) Finally, this is nit-picky, but I like the little locking mechanism on the mode dial on my K7. It keeps the mode from changing accidentally.

These are the reasons why I like the K7. I wish and hope Pentax will develop a full frame camera. That will be my next move up from the K7.Get more detail about Pentax K-7 14.6 MP Digital SLR with Shake Reduction and 720p HD Video (Body Only).

Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A390L - Digital camera - SLR - 14.2 Mpix - Sony DT 18-55mm lens - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: SD, MS PRO Duo, MS PRO-HG Duo HX, SDHC, MS PRO-HG Duo - black Best Quality

DPReview has posted their review of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G10 where they write - `If you're a Sony Alpha (or Konica Minolta) user that shoots mainly at base ISO, in live view and Auto mode the Sony DSLR-A390 is worth a look, and is definitely a more agreeable camera to use than its predecessor.'
The new Sony A390 is a price breaker, a first-time DSLR user's camera. Sony added a little bit more style and value, some extra pixels and a `new' Alpha DSLR is born. With the introduction of the Sony Alpha 390 the Alpha digital SLR range from Sony grows further with a stylish, affordable new entry-level camera. Ideal for first-time DSLR users, the Sony DSLR-A390 offers a dramatic step up in picture quality and creative options from point-and-shoot compact cameras. The Sony Alpha 390 is easy to use, even if you've never handled a DSLR camera before.
The Alpha A290 gets a 14.2 megapixel sensor to match that of the A390, while the A390 adds SD/SDHC compatibility.
Most other specs are consistent with the Alpha A230. The A290 features a Sony a-mount for compatibility with Alpha lenses and offers a 9-point AF system, a 2.7-inch 230,400-dot LCD, and sensor shift Steadyshot image stabilization.

The larger sensor size will result in a slight reduction in battery life, according to Sony. The A290 will record a CIPA-rated 500 images per fully charged battery while the A230 was rated for 510 images.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A390
The Sony A390 offers just a few upgrades from the previous A380, which is currently unavailable from Sony's online store. It retains the 14.2 megapixel APS-C size sensor and adds wireless compatibility with the HVL-F20AM flash unit. Additionally, the A390 is Windows 7 compatible via USB connection.
Along with expanded SD/SDHC compatibility, the A390 offers a 2.7-inch tilting LCD, 2.5 fps burst shooting mode, and built-in sensor shift Steadyshot.Get more detail about Sony a (alpha) DSLR-A390L - Digital camera - SLR - 14.2 Mpix - Sony DT 18-55mm lens - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: SD, MS PRO Duo, MS PRO-HG Duo HX, SDHC, MS PRO-HG Duo - black.

Pentax K-x 12.4 MP Digital SLR with 2.7-inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens (White) Immediately

I couldn't beat the price for this entry level DSLR. It's got all the features I want, a neat look and is overall sturdy. I went with Pentax because all their older lenses (even going back into the '70s) work with the new cameras. They don't have the pull of Nikon or Canon, but they still have a good reputation with a small cultish community backing Pentax products.

I went with this specific model because of the good price vs quality ratio, fast firing speed and unique look.

I have traveled everywhere with this camera and it has survived. I didn't expect metal casing/heavy plastic or weather sealing at this price level, but the addition of this would have put it over the top.Get more detail about Pentax K-x 12.4 MP Digital SLR with 2.7-inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens (White).

Canon EOS 20D 8.2MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens Review

Only being an amateur photographer of sorts I wanted to ease into the field with a solid easy to use camera that didn't skimp on the features. I purchased mine on ebay used for an extremely good price so I may be a bit biased here. However, prior to that I did do a lot of research and found this along with one other from Nikon to be the best for my needs. In the end I focused more on Canon due to the lens selection and the numerous other canon products such as printers and papers that'd make compatibility less of a hassle.

Works great with Windows XP. And recently found it just as easy to work with Windows 7 (32-Bit) by simply setting it to P2P in the menu section.

It is an older camera in terms of how technology ages and with that its a bit bulkier. However its insides have easily stood up against its age.Get more detail about Canon EOS 20D 8.2MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens.

Sony Alpha A330Y 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses Top Quality

I very much like my Sony Alpha-330. It is easy to use, the weight is comfortable...I wish the higher ISO values created less noise in the image.

I'm very happy with the image stabilization within the camera.

Can't think of too much else that isn't perfect, except the noise in low-light images.Get more detail about Sony Alpha A330Y 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses.

Nikon D50 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

Let me just start by saying that I am a good photographer... not to toot my own horn, but simply to state that I can put the D50 and other cameras through their paces in terms of technical quality, techniques, and artistic use. I now primarily use a Nikon D90 which is mind blowing for its price, but I would still never get rid of my D50.

Why??----- This camera is simply easy to use for a DSLR, lightweight, technically amazing at 6mp if you can use it well, and the ergonomics on the camera are better (in my opinion) than pretty much any other DSLR I've ever held. Like I said, that's my opinion, but the camera simply feels great in hand, and looks very nice as well.

It has an auto-focus motor in the body so you can use it with pretty much any Nikon lens ever made and it gives amazing results in manual mode. While newer cameras like the D90 and up into the way more expensive professional models current in 2010 have "technically" better image quality the D50 is kind of like a digital holga for me. As any good photographer knows, megapixels don't mean jack sh** beyond getting somewhat more detail in huge prints---a medium format film camera doesn't take inherently "better" images than a 35mm film camera unless there is an objective goal of more detail in the final (large) print. Getting back to the D50, the image quality is superb and even in huge prints (I've made prints as large as 40"x50" with the D50) even though there might not be as much detail, the results are stunning if you know what you are doing in photoshop, lightroom, etc.

As of 2010 if I sold this camera on EBAY the money I would get would not be worth what the camera is really worth. Only much farther in the future when this camera is truly an antique might it actually be worth a lot more. Therefore I'm definitely keeping and using this camera for a long time to come. It is a great backup camera or still primary camera for that matter outside of paid work. I also didn't mention, but I truly think this camera can take more of a beating than other Nikon DSLRs that don't have magnesium bodies. The plastic body is superb and if I ever dropped it hard I'm sure the impact would be absorbed easily.

All in all if you can still get one of these don't hesitate because it is only 6mp. 6mp raw or .jpg files are way easier to handle than some of the 12mp or 21mp files I've handled. That may be a non issue if you have a super fast computer, but still it is something to consider.

Overall this is one of my favorite cameras of all time.Get more detail about Nikon D50 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).

Shop For Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Silver)

Great camera!! Excellent photo quality and ease of use. I highly recommend some additions to your purchase. I purchased a Canon Lens Hood EW-60C that easily attaches to the lens and protects it from damage. I also purchased a Hoya UV filter 55mm Pitch: 0.75 to protect the actual lens from scratches. Another helpful purchase was the Cap Keeper by Sima, it attaches the cap to your lens strap so you don't have to worry about where to put the cap when your trying to get the shot. It only costs a few dollars but is a really helpful addition. I hope this helps. The only reason I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it doesn't take video. Just do it you wont regret it.Get more detail about Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Silver).

Order Nikon D200 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

I have owned my D200 now for just over 3 years and there are not enough good things I can say about it. I can go over every positive detail this camera features, but I am not going to do that since so many others have. I have taken well over 10,000 shots with it and it is still going strong and not once have I had an issue with it. The only time I get a bad shot is due to user error - which does happen sometimes. I have made prints up to 30"x40" and they look beautiful and sharp. That is partly due to the quality of Nikkor lenses which are just as high performance, refined and durable as the D200.

One thing I will say is that I live in Minnesota and it tends to get cold up here...I usually don't consider it `cold' until it hits -20 or below and we have many of those days each winter. At one time I did own a Canon, only because it was cheaper (go ahead and kick me for it, I did). Well, they are cheaper and cheaply made - plastic lens mounts on some of their cameras and many of their lenses...come on! Anyway, on not even cold days, 30 degrees or so, the camera would freeze up and that was with warm batteries. So it is not a battery issue but the actual camera body that would freeze up. Canons have so much plastic in them, it makes them lightweight, but not durable and definitely not for cold weather situations, in my opinion and experience they are junk compared to Nikons standards of refinement, durability and quality.

I am so happy with performance and durability of my D200 on any day or night and it does work well even on those `cold' days at -20 degrees or less. It's water resistant, so works well in rain and heavy fog (other times my Canon would fail on me). And durable; this thing is built like a tank and if anyone ever tries to take it from me, I'll just beat them over the head with it, than take a picture to prove it!

This is a beautiful piece of equipment and I will never go back to using cheap Canons or any other brand name for that matter. One of my personal mottos is, "You're not a pro, unless you use a Nikon".

Cheap Canon EOS-50D 15.1MP Digital SLR Camera With EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 Image Stabilized USM SLR Lens

I went for the 50D over the Rebel series because it handles low light and high speed photography better. I can set the ISO to 3200 rather than 1600, and the shutter speed goes to 1/8000 second. What I want to know is how big a drop in print quality will result from the ISO 3200 setting. I'll be testing the shutter speed function at a local racetrack on July 3rd. The cars reach speeds of 180 MPH at the end of the straightaway. 1/8000 should freeze the action. Of course I'll slow it down a little too, for background blur. The 50D is fun to play with, but it is a bit big and heavy.Get more detail about Canon EOS-50D 15.1MP Digital SLR Camera With EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 Image Stabilized USM SLR Lens.

Lowest Price Canon Digital Rebel XSI 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Silver)

This Canon is very nice. However, I prefer using my Canon A1 film camera. Digital is great, but I wish this camera had the ability to take photographs as well as my A1 SLR. No way, it just can't be done. But for a digital camera for under $700, whereas mine included the 50-250mm zoom lens and the standard 18-55mm, so I received even a better deal. I do like the camera, I just can't seem to get the quality pictures I think it should deliver. It could be me and not the camera. All of the whistles & bells are fantastic, including the battery life. I use my old Canon Speedlite 199a flash on this camera. Its works perfectly. No problems. Oh, and I called Canon technical support prior to using this older flash unit because I had read where some people thought it could damage the camera, which it cannot. All I can say is when you are in the market for a new camera, keep your eyes open for Canon to offer special deals on lenses.Get more detail about Canon Digital Rebel XSI 12.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Silver).

Myself as a very long-time prosumer of Leica M 6 film camera and all its glorious lenses i frankly think this Panasonic - with a Leica objective - is better than Nikon D60 Kit. Nikon comes with an inferior lens.

The picture quality (RAW) is good and all the necessary manual controls are there beside automatic programs.

Con: noise control with big ISO numbers ( 800 +) is not good. No good for tele.

Pro: the camera takes e.g. Olympus serious flas Fl-36R as TTL. - Very handhy wide angel (24). f=2.8

Low Price Olympus E 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko Lens for Olympus Digital SLR Cameras

I just bought this lens yesterday and I'm already in love. It's compact, it's affordable, it's lightweight and the images are truly stunning. It's quick and quiet. Sharp lens and fast at 4, focusing is nothing short of excellent. The FOV is excellent for cramped spaces or wide areas, it gathers it all. I can take a photo of the entire inside of the front seats of my car. Awesome!

I love landscape photography and always wanted something a little wider than my 14-54. This is the lens to buy. Great for travel. Olympus puts together an affordable light package, (I have an E620 and E1) built for travelers on the go. Easy to carry without the weight. Discount Sony Alpha DSLR-A550L 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Since the other reviews have quite a bit of practical information in them, I thought I'd post one that was more of a gut reaction from a new user. What it lacks in detail, it more than makes up for in brevity.
I own an A700, and love it, but wanted a good back-up camera/second body. Naturally, I kept going back to Sony, since I have quite a bit invested in glass and gear.
Unfortunately, none of the previous models felt quite right in my hand. The grips all seemed too slight and uncertain. I have big hands and long fingers (perfect for a pianist or strangler, not so hot for a DSLR shooter,) so finding a camera with a "good feel" is a bit tricky. The A550 fits the bill (and my hand,) quite nicely. For me, it's a great second camera. I also found it be fairly responsive and easy to use, as well as alot of fun. I may never take full advantage of all
the "bells and whistles," but they're alot of fun to play with, and may come in handy from time to time as well (a bit like an amp that goes to 11.)

So I've been waiting for a compact camera with either 4/3rds sensor size or larger and priced around $600. There are only a few on the market:
- Sigma DP1, DP2 (Sensor size 20.7mm x 13.8mm)
- Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 (Sensor size 4/3rds : 17.3mm x 13.0mm)
- Olympus PEN E-PL1, E-P1, E-P2 (Sensor size 4/3rds : 17.3mm x 13.0mm)
- Sony NEX3, NEX5 (Sensor size APS-C 22.2mm x 14.8mm)

I was leaning towards the Olympus but read that Sony was going to make a APS-C size sensor compact camera so I waited and finally got it.

I own lots of cameras, Nikon D700, Nikon D300, Nikon D50, Panasonic LX3, Canon S90, Canon SD960, and a bunch of others.

Pros about NEX3:
- This thing shoots fantastic photos.
- The 16mm : 24mm equiv lens is awesome.
- HD video is pretty cool.
- Innovative controls need to get use to.
- Panaramic shooting mode.
- Photos are very sharp.
- Cool screen flexibilities.

Cons:
- Only got the pancake 16mm for compactness, 18-55mm is too big and defeats the whole purpose.
- It's possible to shoot manual but ISO is hidden under two menus to adjust, apperture & shutter is easy to adjust.
- Battery does go fast even when turned off, the firmware update did help.
- Weird flash attachment, wish it could bend upwards for ceiling bounce flash.
- Wish they sold a snug fit leather case like shown on website.
[...]

Other than that, it's a pretty sweet camera. I heard Nikon is developing their own so that they can keep up with the compact large size sensor market. I hope it's a DX format sensor so almost equivalent to APS-C sensor.

Cheap Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago. I already owned the first version of the EOS 5D, but I thought it would be handy to have High Def video in the same unit. Many consumer grade handy cams have the ability to shoot stills, but their still photo resolution leaves much to be desired. I would have to carry both a high quality SLR and a handy cam to be ready for both situations. When the 5D Mark II came out I saw the opportunity to get high def both ways in a single camera.

Indeed it does that, but the video capabilities of the 5D Mark II are not nearly as convenient to use as almost any consumer grade camcorder at 1/3 the price. Let me be clear about what I am saying. The quality of the high def video that the 5D Mark II shoots exceeds any consumer grade camcorder I have ever seen. Capturing that video however requires both hands whereas almost any handycam is a one handed breeze due to the ergonomic placement of the controls. Not so with the 5D Mark II.

You would think that to start shooting video you simply select "movies" on the mode dial and click the shutter with your right index finger and everything happens automatically from that point. Not so. Not even close. With the 5D Mark II, first you press the "live view" button. The mirror flips up and the image appears on the LCD screen. Then you find the part of the image you want to be in focus and press the AF-ON button (assuming you are using auto focus). Step 3, you press the "set" button to start recording video.

In the high def mode, the camera will record up to 12 minutes in a single run while making a digital file on the memory card of about 4GB. Think about that. 4 GB for 12 minutes! One 12 minute clip would completely fill a standard single layer DVD. That's a whole lot of data! In fact neither of my Windows based computers can play it back smoothly. Even the built-in playback within the camera itself is jerky. The more motion there is in the scene, the more frames that are dropped. Even the Canon web site acknowledges that the playback "MAY" be jerky unless your computer has a certain minimum configuration. To be fair, I will say that Apple computers seem to be much better playing back these huge movie files smoothly. This camera records movies in .MOV file format. That is Apple's Quicktime software. Even though Quicktime does run in a Windows environment, it seems to work much better on a Mac. A recent test I conducted showed that a current model Macbook Pro with a 2.53 GHz Intel CPU did a very smooth playback job using Quicktime.

Speaking of focus, you would hope that you simply set the camera to the full automatic mode and your auto focus lens takes care of the rest for the duration of the clip. Once again no. It doesn't work that way. The only way I found to make this camera track the focus in movie mode is to set the mode dial to one of the non automatic positions, and set the focus to the "servo" position as though you were trying to capture still images of a moving subject.

Zooming? Ah yes, that is another capability that is far less convenient. Most handy cams have a built-in powered zoom that is easily operated with one finger on the same hand that is holding the camera. With the 5D Mark II, as with any quality SLR, zooming is done by reaching around to the front of the camera and rotating a lens ring. Needless to say, that can't be done smoothly if you are hand holding the camera with your other hand.

With all the buttons to push and settings to remember, this is not the camera you want for shooting candid spontaneous footage in a hand held situation. To be sure it does a great job shooting video in a controlled environment mounted on a tripod with a fluid head. Without a steady mount however, this camera is best for stills if hand held.Get more detail about Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).

I am coming from an E-300 and I can say this is definitely worth the upgrade. This camera with the 70-300mm lens is a great, inexpensive and portable set-up for nature photography. Overall, I do prefer the physical build quality over Nikon/Canon in this price range.

I can't believe companies do this , this is a one page piece of paper laminated, they have 20 cents into the whole project, while the info is somewhat useful, the product fits in a standard postal envelope!, shipping and handling for this item is $6.95 what a rip off! - I know someone had to write the info and print it, but killing customer confidence is no way to do business, I will not be doing business with adorama again, they may be the photography people, but they are not "people people"Get more detail about PhotoBert Photo CheatSheet for the Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera.

Nikon D3000 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens with 8GB Card + EN-EL9a Battery + Nikon Gadget Bag + Accessory Kit

The whole package is great - camera, lens, dvd's, bag, cleaning kit, card and reader, etc.... As a first time DSLR user, the camera is very intuitive and forgiving. Priced separately, this package would appear to be well over $100 more. I'm not sure why you wouldn't get this package if you are just starting out. I ended up purchasing another Ultra SD card, a UV filter and a lens cap strap (to keep the lens cap attached to the lens when you take it off). I'm certain at some point I will get a 55-200 lens as well but this one suits me just fine for now. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 12.1MP Digital Camera with Lumix G Vario 14-45 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Mega OIS Lens (Red) Review

First let me start by saying I'm not a pro photographer. Second I love this camera!!

Back on X mas last year I was looking to upgrade my regular p&s for something better, I purchase the Canon SX20 IS and I was very pleased but the camera didn't gave me the extra edge I was looking for. So I order the Canon Rebel XS a real DSLR, unfortunately I found it too cumbersome :( So the camera went back.

I'm a mother of 21/2 year old twins, and as such have a lot of gear to carry around (sippy cups, extra clothing, pacifiers, toys, etc.)So portability it's really important to me.
Well this camera, solves that: it's so portable, so light and so cool looking!! With this camera I don't have to worry about missing cool pictures of my fast moving subjects (it shoots 3 frames per second!)

I have been able to do cool effects like cotton candy looking waterfalls, shooting sunsets in low light and doing macro shots. I have purchase filters and I'm ordering my second lens soon!

The tilting LCD screen is a blesssing, I can take pictures of my kids at any angle and makes it easier to review my shots afterwards.

I highly recommend this camera fo all those who want way more than I P&S but don't want to compromise the space in the bags (or backpacks) It is the perfect camera for a family!!Get more detail about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 12.1MP Digital Camera with Lumix G Vario 14-45 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Mega OIS Lens (Red).

Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens Top Quality

I have had the D60 for appx. 2 years now. Though I had used a 35 for many years, when the digital cameras first came out I knew that was the direction I wanted to go. I started with many point and shoot cameras and still have a small Nikon S4. But as a person matures as a photog, a longing for more advanced cameras and gear rears its ugly head. So I got the D60 because it is a relatively inexpensive Nikon DSLR. The main features that you should consider about the D60 is that it is a DX camera, meaning that the sensor that records the shot is smaller then a FX or full frame sensor (FX is the same size as a 35mm film camera). Why is it important to know this? By buying a DX camera you are committing yourself to investing in DX lenses. And you will want more lenses ;-) As of today, I have the kit 18-55mm, a 55-200mm (both are Nikons) and a Tamron 70-300 with Macro. I have also made my own pin hole lens that fits on the D60. If you become an avid photog, you will end up with more money invested in lenses then in camera bodies. What else to consider? Well, the D60 can take you from being a snapshooter to a seasoned amature photog. When you first get the camera, set it up on jpg format and AUTO. By using jpg you save space on your SD card so that you can take more shots and by using AUTO, the camera is as easy using a point and shoot camera. Have fun, work on your composition and lighting skills. And then move on up to shooting in RAW which saves the shot that the camera actually records without comprising the shot. By using RAW you will have more advantages of how you process the final pic. Also you will want to use other settings then AUTO as you learn about your camera and your new craft. The Manual setting is where you will probably want to end up most of the time for the simple reason that it gives you more options of how your D60 records that image. You will eventually stop taking pictures and start making pictures. And that is probably is the strongest reason for buying the D60, it will help you grow as a photographer.
My major caveat about buying this camera is that if you do use it and do grow into a budding advanced shooter, you will start looking at bigger and lot more expensive gear. So you have a choice, buy the D60 and expect to be wanting something newer and better in a couple of years, or tuck your tail and run away as fast as you can. After all, that little $100 point and shoot camera will work for ya, won't it? And it will save you mucho dinero and you will probably not get the "I gotta get a new lens" disease :DGet more detail about Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens.

Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 2.7-inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens (Black) This instant

I'm still learning how to use this camera. I had an old Super-program Pentax 35mm, moved to digital point-n-shoot, now the K-x. I have used my new K-x for landscapes only and have been on two trips so far. I think the resolution and clarity is very good, and the features and options are fantistic! Also, it works well with old Vivitar 28-85 and 70-210 lenses, just don't have autofocus. There seems to be a very slight problem with auto-exposure settings made by the camera, but the problem could be the operator, me. However, I learned long ago to bracket all important shots, so I still have some great photos. (BTW, I'm not using it, but what the heck is sensitivity priority? Manual doesn't explain it very well.) I have not used the Pentax 18-85 lens that came with the camera much, but it will only go as low as 4.5, so I'll just use it for point-and-shoot applications and movies to take advantage of the auto-focus. I think it's worth the extra $50 on the price vs. the body-only price.

The viewing screen is great, but hard to see in bright sunlight. It makes reviewing the pictures difficult in some situations. However, the viewfinder is blocked when you take movies, so I'm going to get a hood to go over my head and the camera (pretty retro.), or a big hat to shade the viewfinder when making movies outdoors. BTW, the quality of the movies is amazing.

A great camera at a great price! I am very satisfied.Get more detail about Pentax K-x Digital SLR with 2.7-inch LCD and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Lens (Black).

Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 MP CMOS APS-C Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only) Immediately

The 1st one I got from Amazon (body only version) was defective. It had a bad SD card slot (wouldnt pop out the card when you pressed on it). I sent it back and had to order from a different company because AZ was out of stock. 2nd one is ok. Be sure to check yours when you get it. Seems like a bad batch as Im not the only one reporting this. See other owners with the same problem at the DPReview site forums.
I dont like the way the battery door opens. For someone without nails, like me, its very difficult to open. I am playing around with it and will report back more. Only have the 50 mm 1.8 lens for now as Im waiting for my backorderd 15-85mm zoon to arrive from Amazon. All the features are cool and will be enjoying my 1st DSLR (but not 1st SLR). Lots to learn on this one. Read the various T2i forums for help and assistance for best results and tips/tricks.

Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only - Silver) Best Quality

I love this camera now, even though it is a dinosaur in terms of its age in a world where technology advances rapidly.

When I first bought this camera in 2007, it had early problems freezing and giving error codes. After performing all the recommended tests & resets, it kept failing. I actually used the camera very little early on and, thus, forgot about the errors. Once I started using the camera regularly again and taking more still photos, I had run out of warranty coverage. So, it cost me a few hundred send the camera back to Canon to repair what was a manufacturing and/or chipset defect.

Once the repair was made, the camera operated flawlessly and still does to this day. Although this model is no longer current, I wanted to add my review for anyone who might be trying to buy one used. Be aware that this model had known issues with freezing as I mentioned above. If that has been repaired, then it is an otherwise excellent camera for the entry-level or intermediate SLR user.Get more detail about Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only - Silver).

I used a sony alpha 100 prior to the 550. I was comfortable with the A100 and liked it very much. An event lead to the loss of the A100 and with lenes already on hand the A550 looked like a nice move up. Was it a move up. Much faster and more features. I have not become comfortable with the new unit, I just need more time with it. Some of the buttons are in different locations and some are the same. Nothing that cannot be overcome. Samsung NX10 - Digital camera - prosumer - 14.6 Mpix - With 18-55mm Lens - supported memory: SD, SDHC - black Buy Now

I come from Point and Shoot background, and had recently learned that to take great photographs, you need a camera with large image sensor. With a large image sensor, you can have more control over your depth of field, and greater dynamic range and low-light photography performance.
Read this for more info:
[...]

However, coming from point and shoot, I don't want to lose the size advantage, so I looked for the smallest camera with large image sensor. I considered micro-four-thirds camera. Had Samsung not released NX10, I might've ended up with one of the m4/3 cameras. However, I like the APS-C sized sensor this camera offers, and it has great online reviews, so I ended up buying this one. Sony also has APS-C hybrid cameras, NEX series. I didn't consider them much because according to the reviews, the camera doesn't handle well if you want more manual control.

I could not be happier with my choice with NX10. There's already a lot of reviews online that you can read that outlines its strength and weaknesses.
I bought this camera with the pancake 30mm lens. I hardly ever use the standard zoom lens it comes with.
With the pancake lens, you really end up with a small camera with DSLR capability. Its image quality is superb. It handles really well.

Lowest Price Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 MP CMOS APS-C Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS UD Standard Zoom Lens

Too often camera reviewers insist their initial dslr purchase is a transformative event. "I couldn't believe the pictures I got from (fill in the blank)." Having used an Olympus point and shoot for years, I was seduced by those claims. My pictures were good, but imagine what they would be like if I used (fill in the blank). I wanted my pictures to look like the ones in the magazines. And, based on the reviews I read, I would get that quality if I purchased a dslr.
After exhaustive research, I finally settled on the T2i. Initially, I was hesitant about buying a Canon or Nikon, assuming that the hype about their quality was a direct result of their advertising budget. But the press for the T2i was overwhelmingly positive, and I decided all of those reviewers couldn't have been bought off.
So once the camera arrived, I took it out for a test shoot. Since I am a neophyte, I initially set the camera on automatic. The first thing I discovered was discouraging. Canon makes a big deal about the three-inch lcd and how many pixels there are so you can consult it in any kind of weather. And the display is beautiful indoors. But out in the sun... uh, uh, it is worthless. I had to duck into the shade to see anything. So if you are an advanced photographer and want to adjust your settings shot by shot, either bring an umbrella or find some shade. Otherwise you will be shooting blind.
Now, as for the quality of the pictures taken on automatic, I was stunned all right. But not in a good way. They were no better than my Olympus (the 5060 if you are wondering) and not very sharp. I know that is heresy, but that is my honest opinion.
I had previously bought Amazon's highest rated general dslr guide -- a three-book set -- and consulted it. The author advised shooting in an advanced mode and to shoot at f/8, in his words the camera's sweet spot. And I saw an immediate improvement. Not that the shots were magazine quality, but I assumed that was because of my inexperience in setting the camera properly.
But then I called Canon customer service (which, by the way, is superb) with a question and mentioned to the guy that I was underwhelmed by my pictures. And he explained that the camera could only do so much. A key to great pictures is the lens. He pointed out that while I had purchased the camera with an upgraded 18mm to 135mm lens, the quality still was not comparable to an L lens, which is Canon's professional lens.
Well, that clarified things for me. Unless I wanted to invest another thousand bucks or more on an L lens, I had no hope of consistently getting top quality shots. Presumably, I could stumble into one by accident, but that was all I could hope for.
But after lowering my expectations, I have begun to really enjoy this camera. Having tentatively moved to the advanced mode (I even adjust some other settings manually,) I have been pleased with the pictures I have been getting. And I am really glad I upgraded to the 18-135mm because it allows me the versatility I want without needing to change lenses.
Bottom line: if you have more modest expectations going in (your friends will not ooh and ahh at your pictures, and you will not see them in National Geographic) you will really enjoy this camera.

Save Pentax K-7 14.6 MP Digital SLR with Shake Reduction and 720p HD Video with DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Weather Resistant Lens

I've owned the Pentax K7 for 6 months, and have shot well over 7000 photos. And no, I'm not exactly a pro, but I do shoot a lot for both work and vaction, so bottom line is: I LOVE IT! I just get so inspired, I haven't felt like that since I had to retire my old 35mm Pentax. I did choose Pentax because I do have a 30 year old XL and a bunch of manual lenses that I really didn't want to throw away. They work perfectly with the K7, however the obvious fact is that the manual lenses won't turn magically into automatic, and the camera must be programed for them to work, but I am very happy 'cause they DO work.
Here's some other features I love: super fast trigger (not easily clogged), tons of customizable settings, on-screen warnings, and it is quite small and light for a DSLR... Having said that, It is NOT an easy camera to use for someone with even a little photographic training, and most of the menus are designed for studio-type pics, or if you'd have enough time before taking the pic which cannot be all of the time, so if anything I'd improve on, is somehow having an on-the-fly type options, better superdark sensitivity, and better remote control sensitivity. They are pretty good, don't get me wrong, but I have a Sony 7mpix pocket camera with slightly better superdark capabilities.
This is the fifth digital camera I own, and it is my first DSLR, and with all of them toghether I have shot well over 25,000 photos in about 5 years, so I'm also very thankful that I don't have to develop any more film, ever!Get more detail about Pentax K-7 14.6 MP Digital SLR with Shake Reduction and 720p HD Video with DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Weather Resistant Lens.

Cheap Olympus Evolt E420 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Lens

I really wanted to love this camera, despite not being impressed at all right out of the box of the plastic body that to me seemed cheap-looking. The features were outstanding and the menus were easy to navigate. I loved that it takes two different kinds of memory cards. I just wasn't happy with the picture quality in the auto mode... the lighting always seemed to be off, whether I tried shooting indoors or out. I was spending more time editing & adjusting the pictures than it took to download them off the camera. I had problems with over AND under exposure. Details were not as sharp as my little point & shoot Canon (which I was upgrading from). Plus, it was on sale at Walmart and the price was phenomenal.... but I just couldn't get past the lack of quality on the images. I finally returned it and opted to stay with the tried & true Canon brand and ordered an XS instead, and this will be my 5th or 6th Canon... I am really frustrated with Sony and my Alpha DSLR, a product with inferior build quality and a customer service that lays the blame on me instead of acknowledging quality problems. I have bought it sometime in 2007 and only had problems with it. After some weeks it just wouldn't turn on anymore and it took Sony several weeks to get it repaired and back to me. Now when I take pictures the resulting file shows a different field of vision than what the viewfinder showed me. Even worse, there is a black right upper corner in every one of my picture. After several tries to get to the right person to help me, Sony told me that any repair would cost a fixed amount of £114.56. Without even knowing what is wrong with my camera. Asking if this functional failure is normal for a Sony product after three years, I was told that this is normal "wear and tear". For me a camera that is expected by the producer not to last longer than the guarantee period of one year, is not worth paying for. My next camera, or any electronics product for that matter, will for sure not be a Sony product. I recommend for everyone planning to buy one of their products to think hard about how long he/she plans to use it for.Get more detail about Sony Alpha A230L 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm Lens.
