Nikon Coolpix L5 7.2MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom Review

I bought this camera after several years with a Sony which gave me fantastic photos that people would rave about. The Sony lens eventually got stuck and so I bought the Nikon. Outdoor photos in auto mode come out great. Then I took the camera to a baby shower indoors and disaster resulted. All photos were not usable. I thought maybe I had placed the camera in the wrong mode and so I opened the menu and selected Party/Indoor mode. Same problem. Photos come out in a yellow tinge and if anyone moves at all. the camera blurs the face. Unless the subject is completely still, all photos are terrible. So I read the manual from begining to end because I figured I must have missed something. But no. In auto mode the camera displays a NO FLASH icon, so that means no flash is possible in auto mode which means you are screwed indoors or in shaded areas. Placing the camera in indoor mode improves the situation but only if no one moves. This makes this camera useless in my opinion. What is the point of all the other functions when you can rally only take outdoor photos? By the way, no viewfinder is BAD. On a sunny day, you have no idea what you are taking photos of.
So in summary, outdoors you get great photos but they will be a surprise because you cannot see the image in sunlight on the screen. And Indoors you get to see exactly what you have taken a photo of because you will be deleting photo after photo.
Nikon messed up something seriously critical in the design of this.
I will need to buy a Canon.
This was a seriously bad choice and a waste of money.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix L5 7.2MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom.

Nikon Coolpix S620 12.2MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Noble Purple) Top Quality

Whilst this camera takes fairly nice photos, it's very slow to focus. I've missed a few key photos while waiting for the camera to be ready to shoot.

Additionally, I noticed a few months after I got it that the small screws on both sides of the camera had fallen out. One day the side panel just fell off. I have yet to be able to get this fixed but I imagine that a Nikon store should be able to help.

For me, the camera is too bulky to carry around in a small purse but it takes good pictures.

My 2 centsGet more detail about Nikon Coolpix S620 12.2MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Noble Purple).

5*****
Great camera
very portable and small
I've had it for about 2 or 3 years now and i am amazed with the quality of it for such a small/cheap camera.
I use it to film airsoft and atv events while holding the gun or throttle in the other hand and I've dropped it many times and still works perfectly.
runs on 2 AA batteries and can record video and take pictures in pretty good quality.
I definitely recommend it!

Nikon Coolpix 4200 4MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

This is a replacement for a product that I have used to death in my travels to Europe and Japan. It's an excellent camera that I purchased for taking photos of artifacts in museums up close... and flowers... not to mention the usual scenery shots. Great lens, easy to understand settings. I do recommend that you NOT drop the camera in Trafalgar Square or spill Coke on the lens cover (the old one used to stick because of it). Despite all my abuse, the old version still worked but the battery door no longer closes and the battery falls out, so when I saw this deal, I just HAD to get it. It's like my love affair with the 1980 Honda Accord Hatchback- I bought 3 because I loved that particular model so much. The new camera is perfect. This will make a great gift for my relatives who are gadget-averse but want a digital camera.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix 4200 4MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.

Purchase Nikon Coolpix L2 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

LOVE MY CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:
Sleek looking
Thin
Made by Nikon so you know your getting good stuff
6.0 megapixel makes beautiful prints
Lots of modes: Has a great close up mode
Cheap: Got mine for $60

Cons:
A little slow taking the picture. I would say that it takes about second of holding down the button to start the process

The screen goes black for a few seconds after there is a flash then there is no autopreview

It drains AA batteries(Should get rechargeable)

This should not discourage you from buying this Camera. It really is fantastic. Also make sure that you don't pay over $150. If this is your first camera then you might want to buy a refurbished one. These tend to be great deals!Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix L2 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.

Buy Nikon Coolpix 885 3MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

Nikon never fixed the red oversaturation issue in these cameras. Red sticks out like a sore thumb and makes the images unrealistic.

I had mine develop some hot pixels under warranty and returned it to Nikon for repair (replacement of the imager). It came back with even more hot pixels than I sent it to them with.

If you want a digital camera and someone is giving one of these away, that's a good deal. As the other reviewers note - see if you can find sample images online that show how bad the red issue is.

And lastly, concerning Nikon as a whole, they may make good cameras now but I'm gun shy after they fixed my camera to be worse than I sent it to them.

I'm looking for a new camera now and have lived with retouching any photos taken in less than bright sunlight (where hot pixels really show up) and also having to manually color balance any images with red in them. Actually, all images come out slightly "off" because red is so enhanced in this camera.

Needless to say, I am not buying Nikon.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix 885 3MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom.

Buying Nikon Coolpix S510 - Digital camera - compact - 8.1 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SD, SDHC

I purchased this camera for the sole purpose of having a time lapse camera. That is a small feature that is noticeably absent from most point and shoots out there. This feature doesn't disappoint. You can have it automatically record a 30 fps .avi file, or just keep the images from the time lapse separate. I was a little apprehensive that the time lapse was only VGA quality, but with video that's fine. I kind of wish there were an option to take pictures at intervals less than 30 seconds. The camera is smart enough to turn off the display in time lapse to save battery life. I love this feature and it has really opened my eyes to see things in a new light.

Other thoughts: VERY noisy above ISO 400. ISO 1600 unusable - unless you're using it to time lapse, at which point the noise is not so noticeable. Don't ask me why I had the ISO kicked up so high since I obviously had the camera stationary, it was a mistake. On that note, this camera does allow you to set the ISO, and of course it does have auto ISO.

I like the metal front. I love the very fast startup time. The screen in the back is pretty bad. It really makes images look grainier than they are.

I would buy this camera again. Given the features and the low cost, I can get over the bad screen and poor low-light performance. The images are what matters and this camera definitely performs.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S510 - Digital camera - compact - 8.1 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SD, SDHC.

Amazing, this was an expensive high quality camera just under Nikon's best 950 digital back in 1999! However, this Nikon 800 still takes pictures that will match or exceed the best cameras in the market today thanks to its original build quality internals which were not skimped on plus the all glass 2x optical zoom (38 to 76mm equivalent)f/3.5-4.8 Nikkor lens. ..it's virtually a steal at todays price and nothing today takes better pictures in it's class. Oh,did I mention it fits in pocket like a hand. :)

Save Nikon Coolpix S610 10MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Deep Red)

I've had this camera for a little more than a year now, before I broke the lens on the camera. It worked well for me when I went to Japan to take quick snap shots of where I visited (mostly outside). The start up for the camera is very fast, opening up immediately when you press the "on" button; this was something I especially needed and wanted, specifically, for my winter trip there, and also one of the main reasons why I bought this camera was for the fast start up speed. When I was visiting Japan, I was able to walk down a section of the street and easily pull out my camera to take a quick snap shot without having to stop. That function was wonderful to have when I was in a rush.

The battery life was amazing, which was also something I was looking into. I needed my camera to last throughout the whole day when I was visiting Japan and it ended up lasting longer than a day. If I remembered correctly though, I may have asked for the extended battery life when I bought the camera, so they may have upgraded that for me. I was able to use this camera for a whole week and only needed to charge it twice. To me, that's a super win win situation, because my old camera had a horrible battery life, which only lasted a couple hours.

The quality of this camera was nice for the most part, but at times it would be blurry. It definitely showed clarity for most of my pictures, but there would be occasions when some of the pictures don't focus all too well. You would have to hold the camera extremely still sometimes in order to capture a certain moment... I find myself taking more than one picture of same item sometimes in order to get it "just" right. If you're a perfectionist in terms of clarity, this would be the best suited camera to select. I would still enjoy the camera (if I hadn't broken it), since it's 10 mega-pixels definitely showed me a lot of detail in my pictures, but you'd have to be a bit patient.

The functionality of the camera was easy to use and set up, give or take a few moments where I needed to look up something in the manual, in order to find more details of what the button/function did.

The optical zoom of the camera was nice to have, but it wasn't great. I was expecting to have more focus in the zoom, considering this was a 4x the optical zoom preference. The lens in this camera, or any camera with high zoom, protrudes outwards when it's on, so you have to be careful not to drop it while it's on, or it could be jammed. Since the "on" and "off" button on this camera is easily accessible, it was also easy for things to push into it and turn on, thus, turning on the camera and pushing out the lens outward. Because of this, my camera lens broke, and/or was jammed, when my friend left this camera on the leather couch and someone pushed it aside, turning it on because it hit something, and another person sat on it (cause they didn't see it), which essentially crushed the camera lens... it was an unfortunate event, considering how I had bought this item at full price when it first came out.

I like the camera, but it could be better. I would still like to own another one if I had the money to buy a new, mainly, for the way it looks. I know that sounds kinda shallow, but it looks pretty sleek, and it's the perfect size for me (not too small, and not too big).

Overall, it's good, but not great. It has a fast and speedy start up function. The picture quality is good, but the focus can be a little off making it a bit blurred. The lens and LCD screen for any particular camera is very fragile, and this camera is NOT an exception. Happy purchasing, everyone. I hope my comments help a bit.

Low Price Nikon Coolpix 2200 2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

I got this camera used last year for $5.00. At that time teh battery compartment was loose and you needed a rubber band around it tio kee in the batteries, but it worked very well. The only manual I had was on disk. I could not readily follow it when it was printed out. Now I think I could understand it better.

This camera has more features that you think.

Although made in 2004, this is more than adequate for most purposes. It uses regular size SD cards. I did not get the cable, but you can buy SD card readers or multi card type readers. You can get a reader just for SD cards for $3.00 or less at a computer fare or on Ebay. A multi-purpose reader should get cost you around $8 or so. You can then transfer pictures to your computer. You can also have pictures read and printed at places like Rite Aid.

SD cards are now much bigger than when this camera came out, and I quickly replaced the 16 megabyte SA card with a 1 gigabyte one. The camera can take also a 2 gigabyte card. You won't need to replace the card for a long long time, like a year or two. The camera will probably break before the card is full. You can put the card in another Nikon camera and it will take up where it left off.

The camera keeps a continous log of all pictures that it has ever taken up to the number 9999. That number is the last 4 digits of the file name before the extension. (Most files are *.JPGs, but teh mtion pictures are *.MOV files also called Quicktime)

The pictures are saved in a directory or folder called 100NIKON. That continues until it has 200 pictures. Then it goes to 101NIKON and so on up to 999NIKON although I don't know if that number has been reached by anyone anywhere in the world. Anytime a picture with a lower number than the highest number in the highest numbered directory is added to the SD card, a new directory or folder is also created. So when I copied some older pictures to the SD card, keeping the old numbers they were put in a new directory (or folder) even thiouygh there were only 3 pictures in the old one.

If you switch cameras and the new camera has a higher number than the old one, it will add the pictures in the same place - otherwise it wil create a new folder.

You can also add other pictures to the card but put them in a different directory than what Nikon uses or you might not be able to see many pictures in your viewfinder. You can also use the the SD card in its reader (that you buy) as an ordinary flash drive as some people have discovered and it is probably better than a regular flash drive in that you don't have to worry about damaging the connection to the USB port.

You should copy the pictures to a computer for safety and backup. You can use any kind of program to look at the pictures and you can view small images of the pictures in the camera itself.

There is a very big problem with all digital cameras. The LCD screen can break. It can break rather soon and apparently Nikon does not repair it for free considering it the result of mishandlingh and not copvered by its warranty. I encountered other people who had the same problem of an LCD camera breaking.

For this reason I recommend buying a 4 or 5 year old camera on Ebay and replacing it if the LCD breaks.

After using this camera about half a year the LCD screen suddenly stopped working. (I think it got pressed the wrong way in my coat pocket when i was sitting in a bus) The camera is not useless then, and there is no need to throw it over a bridge. Pictures are much more likely be overexposed then (if taken outside) and you get no immediate feedback then, even feedback as to that a picture was successfully taken and it is very hard to get any pictures out of internal memory then. I took some pictures after the LCD screen (viewfinder) broke and I found it took very good pictures indoors.

I bought a Nikon 3200 for about $40 including shipping on Ebay. This is almost the same except that it can take video with sound. If I knew how to do that. Maybe it is automatic.

If you get this camera you will be discovering new features for quite some time.

In a nutshell, I have owned this camera for about 8 months

Pros:
Very pretty red color
Huge Display
Easy to use - Very comparable to other digital cameras I have used
Decent price - Again compared to other cameras with around 7.2 MP
Many nice features - video, etc
Lightweight

The zoom - is not as impressive as I had hoped

Not particularly durable - I have dropped this camera only once and the silver side paneling had cracked and chipped.

Nikon Coolpix S51 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Red) This instant

We bought this camera because, like most women, my wife wants a small camera. Expecting the best from the illustrious name "Nikon", our hopes were dashed.

The optical quality of the photographs it produced was abysmal. Most were out of focus, and those that were in focus were of very poor quality.

So we returned it for a refund, thanks for that, and bought a Canon. It is slightly larger but produces excellent photographs every time.

Low Price Nikon Coolpix S200 7.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

After 40 pictures, we got a 'lens error' message when using this camera. However, the 40 pictures we took were really good ones. We were still under the 30 day warranty and Nikon had no problems fixing the camera. When it was returned to us, we were able to use it for six weeks before we got another 'lens error' message. No longer under warranty, so can't afford to fix something when the fix isn't going to solve the problem. I did get a 'lens error' message once when I accidentally pushed both of the buttons on the top (the shutter button and the on/off switch are located very close to one another), but shutting it off and taking out the battery saved that mistake. We homeschool our kids, so I'm hoping we can just add this to the 'crappy digital camera' pile and let the kids dissect it and turn it into something useful some day.

Note: the camera is unusable when it gets the 'lens error message' and you can rarely fix this yourself.

At about $1.89 per picture taken, I'd say that this is not an affordable camera. Don't buy it.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S200 7.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom.

Save The Illusionist [Blu-ray]

This film is possibly one of the most under-rated piece of film art made in the recent past. It is a well mastered tale of suspense, interlaced with romance. Add some social class warfare and you should find something for most viewers. This is not a film that you put on unless you are willing to pay attention. The viewer really does need to pay attention, so if you play your videos just to make noise, then this one will lose you quickly.Get more detail about The Illusionist [Blu-ray].

Cheapest Collateral [Blu-ray]

This is the first and only movie that Tom Cruise has made where he actually showed acting talent. In all of his other attempts, he substitutes anger and screaming with no shading or signs he's had any training or directing whatsoever. Too bad he didn't learn how he did it. All three Mission Impossibles were embarrassing. Tom, (SUPERHERO) had to play ALL the original team rolled into one character. Teamwork MADE MI on TV. Sorry he didn't take time to research the original plot. Lowest Price The Crazies [Blu-ray]

I love Romero, especially some of his not too often seen movies like The Crazies (original) and Martin.
So we get an updated version, a more glossier, edgier, scarier update of the Crazies, i for one am not up for classics being remade. I just know somewhere down the line John Boorman's classic Deliverance will be remade unfortunately and Sleep Away Camp.

Anyways, this remake was actually enjoyable, as I do like the actors, Timothy Olyphant plays small town Iowa Sheriff, where people start acting in strange manners and soon whole town is in a pandemic except for a few who aren't affected like the sheriff, his wife and his loyal deputy ( Joe Anderson) who turns in a good performance as the deputy who soon starts turning into a "crazy" and so desperately trying to keep his grip on what is happening but knows he has the "crazies". So we find that the Government had a secret biological weapon that was on a plane that crashed into a swamp and said biological crap got into the town's water supply. Then all hell breaks loose, Government guys come in, the town is under martial law, people getting executed by own government, people who are affected are contained.

This is A good thriller, but lacked what all Romero movies had, the social commentary, where back in the 70s when this was made, Romero touched upon, Government, Military, weapons, cannot trust your military. Stuff like that.
This is just an updated straight thriller/ horror, where it's selling point: quick scares, nice action sequences, cat and mouse chases between Sheriff and Military. A good pop corn movie over all, do no expect anything too deep, in fact I feel this could have been an X Files episode, whole Government Conspiracy crap and all. But I liked it for the performances, over all direction was good, nice soundtrack, some decent scares, good Sat night pop corn movie as i always say.Get more detail about The Crazies [Blu-ray].

Low Price Hang Em High (2pc) (W/Dvd) (Ws) [Blu-ray]

Is this film really PG13 in USA? In Finland it is not allowed below 15 years, which is as it should be. Of course, films are getting more and more violent, but more than this I do not care. There were a couple of things that were good in this film. One of them was Eastwood himself. The other actors were good, too. Ben Johnson is always great, but his part was very small. This is a typical revenge story. That's a main motive in westerns. Is it enough to get a man to risk his life until the rest of his life in order to finalize his evenge? In real life one hopefully would give up. Eventhough he was almost hanged. There were some loose ends in the story. Perhaps this was meant to be so. Inger Stevens is looking men who rape her, but does not find them. Eastwood is feeling pangs of mercy, but the film requires revenge. Was it really necessary to have the long hanging celebration? It took a great part of the film.Get more detail about Hang Em High (2pc) (W/Dvd) (Ws) [Blu-ray].

Victory at Sea Deluxe Edition [Blu-ray] Best Quality

Victory at Sea is hailed as one of the finest documentaries ever made especially one of the great WWII documentaries that everyone else tries to top. The series detail is written here as far as the details though however limited. 26 episodes 1/2 hour in length airing during the 52 - 53 television season on NBC. The film is entirely in black and white.

The series is presented on 4 blu-ray discs which with the capacity of blu-ray I thought they would be able to put this on two discs. I've searched the web and I am unable to find any detailed information as to what we're getting in this package, hey it's not even listed on the company's web site. The company Periscope Films does state however that they give the finest treatment they can when releasing DVDs. So, I'm hoping for a most excellent black and white transfer (on the level of the movie Young Frankenstein) along with a 5.1 or 7.1 audio track for each episode. I also hope that the individual episodes will be complete even though on the original DVD release I could not tell if there was anything missing. I would not miss the introduction by Peter Graves aboard the USS Aircraft Carried Intrepid (Mission Impossible fame - no relation to Leonard Graves series narrator); however, if they do include it please include as a option. I would if possible like an isolated score track in either 5.1 / 7.1 on every episode.

Hopefully this series will get here the lasting treatment it deserves; however, if not then I will be returning this to Amazon and keeping my original DVD release. However, if you've never owned this series then by all means add this release to your library, you won't be disappointed. If I do keep this set then I plan on giving the original release as a gift to my church library. In fact maybe we should recycle the DVD release and give it to our neighborhood schools are community library. I'm sure in this economy they would be most appreciative and then everyone can enjoy this fantastic series.

A man is killing children and using modern forensics techniques, the police are after him.

That's the story of M...which regrettably tells a tale that remains all too familiar today.

Featuring a haunting performance by a much younger Peter Lorre, this film follows the chase as the killings mount and the police draw closer to their suspect.

Though the Fritz Lang who made this film lacked the same kind of resources he had when making his epic masterpiece Metropolis, the sparseness of special effects (including sound, then itself considerd a special effect) actually works in favor of the piece's realite and only serves to make it all the more chilling.

If art is something that evokes a response in all who see it, then perhaps great art is art that continues to perform its artistic mission even generations after its creators are gone.

M is therefore great art. And this reproduction is a must see, even over the last Criterion release of the same film.Get more detail about M (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray].

Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance/Oldboy/Lady Vengeance) [Blu-ray] This instant

First off you should know that yes, those people posting here do actually have copies of this set in their possession. Perhaps it is BEST if I do not post where you can BUY this set. Anyways, there is the deal with this saying it is an 8-disc set when it is really a 4-disc set. That has been cleared up. The DVD set is 8, the BluRay is 4. This has the trilogy in all its brutal and beautiful glory. I suggest picking this gem up before the inevitable re-makes hit the US market and these become impossible to get. Everything looks great and sounds great although some of the audio has been compromised to make room for other features. If you have not seen this trilogy, trust me, just buy it. It is worth it. These films are incredible. The story-lines and artistry will have you diving for the rewind button several times. Absolute classics. Five stars.Get more detail about Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance/Oldboy/Lady Vengeance) [Blu-ray].

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus [Blu-ray] Review

Basically your enjoyment of the movie comes down to this

- If you love Terry Gilliam's fantasy films, you will love/like this one.
- If you don't like his fantasy films (or any of his films) don't bother.

I for one loved it. It is a fitting final film for Heath Ledger (who played the Joker, and passed away halfway through the filming) as well another masterpiece by Terry Gilliam. It may not be as brilliant as Brazil, Baron Munchhausen, Fear and Loathing, or 12 Monkeys, but it is definitely good . . . from the point of view of someone who loves his films.

So, if you love his films, this one is worth your time.Get more detail about The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus [Blu-ray].

Order Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black)

I have always been a fan of Nokia phones.. some were good ...others were not... but the E72 is just what I am looking for...
It gives me the ability to do business and be personal at the same time... the features are excellent and for the most part intuitive.
I guess the thing i like about is that full qwerty keyboard makes it really easy and fast and the keys does not get in your way...when responding to email or sending messages... Whatever this phone does not have you can easily install.... facebook, twitter, and the rest of them... works seamlessly..
The battery life is excellent... seems to go on forever... especially when watching music videos or checking out youtube, .. or simply chatting..

Best of all for me.. is that it does not take up a lot of space... its not bulky at all...

Where To Buy Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black)

I must agree with other reviewers, E72 looks like a step up from specs perspective, but in reality in does feel and look cheaper (made in China you can tell), has navigation problems (horrible joystick, too hard to press), feels much heavier, software issues as well - neither Ovi nor PC Suite would recognize this phone connected via USB.
And guess what even keyboard shortcuts has changed, it's not possible any more to dial a digit by long press on a corresponding button!Get more detail about Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black).

I was using E71 before and was very happy with it. The only thing i needed was the GPS and navigation functions without using the operators. And this phone has this function besides the others on E71. You can download the maps of the related city very easily from internet before you go there. And you can use these maps in offline mode witouh losing money for the operators. Navigation program in it is really perfect. But on your purchase you have only 10 navigation free.
Also the e-mail function is very useful. You can define a network to receive e-mails when this network is available. For example if you are at home and you are waiting for an e-mail you don't need to watch your laptop or pc, your phone will let you know if you receive new email.
Totally i suggest this phone...

Purchase Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black)

I had an e-71 and (after substantial firmware upgrading) it was fantastic. The E-72 is even better. The first one that was shipped to me had no battery life. I sent it back and received a replacement. With Push email (Microsoft Exchange) turned on, it wasn't any better. I set the mail update to every 15 minutes and it worked great. After about two weeks I set it back to "Always ON" and for some reason it solved all the battery problems. I have 1-Exchange, 1-Yahoo and 3-Hotmail accounts all with "always on" push mail. I also do a fair amount of internet usage, GPS etc.. Some coworkers use I-Phones for similar usage and are lucky to last the whole day. This E-72 goes 2 or 3 days with intense use. Great software with it, Camera is surprisingly good, Free Maps and Voice navigation.

I was worried it wouldn't be enough of an upgrade from my E-71...but it was.Get more detail about Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black).

Buying Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black)

Most reviews on the web compare the E72 with the E71 and whether it is worth the upgrade. This review is from the perspective of a first time Nokia smartphone user who previously owned Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices. Compared to my previous phones, this one is definitely more responsive. I rarely ever wait for menus to pop up or applications to open. Also, I am big on multitasking, which Nokia does very well. I agree that Symbian requires some time to get used to, but the shortcuts really help. For example, switching applications by holding down the home button is great for multitasking.

The phone itself is sleek and feels good in the hands. It has some weight to it so that it does not feel "plasticky". The thin form factor makes it easy to carry in the pocket. I'm not going to deny it, the light leak does bother me. It is something I am willing to live with, though, because this phone still looks better than the others in the market. The optical nav pad depends purely on personal preference. I find myself switching between the optical and physical button depending on the task. The optical pad is functional. I just find it a bit slow when scrolling down a web page. And Nokia really dropped the ball in making the surrounding D-pad button too high. It makes scrolling optically uncomfortable as you are constantly hitting the edge of the physical button. I really like how the notification light surrounds the D-pad. The white light looks good on the black phone. Much better than having a separate red LED in the corner of the phone. Now, if only that can switch colors...

Call quality is good and I have no had any dropped calls. The one complaint is that the speakerphone is not loud enough. Email on the Nokia is also surprisingly good despite the bad reviews. I feel that it is as much as "push" email experience as the BB. Setup was pain free even for the casual user. I also like how you do not have to open the html version unless you choose to do so using the link on the top of the email. The one thing I miss from the BB is not being able to get all my email accounts and SMS in one folder. Nokia should really consider that. Also the copy and paste feature is not as good as the BB. I still cannot copy text while reading an email. I have to choose reply so that I can get to edit mode before copying. If somebody knows a trick, please let me know.

The Symbian interface is still relatively old-fashioned and boxy. However, that also means it looks less like a toy. I like how the home screen shows the calendar items and to do list. When on the Blackberry, I had to sift through hundreds of themes to find one that accomplished this task. In terms of apps, I still find that the Symbian apps are a step behind the other platforms. At least in the US. I find A LOT of apps out there, but the quality falls short. For example, the Bloomberg app was much more functional on my Blackberry. The Symbian version is just awkward, with no easy way to refresh the data. Nokia does score with Ovi Maps, which is easy to use and very efficient. Hopefully, Symbian won't die out and people will continue developing apps for it.

I cannot say much about the camera as I like using real cameras for my pictures. I took a few as test shots and they came out pretty good. The shutter is responsive, but the flash is slow. When taken in good light, the pictures were crisp with good color. Low light pictures were noisy as expected.

I hope this review gives readers an idea of the usability of the Nokia E72. I admit some compromises were made to switch from my Blackberry, but overall, I am enjoying my experience with the new phone. I think productivity will increase as I gain experience on Symbian. The responsiveness and appearance of the phone really won me over. Plus I cannot stand carrying the same piece of plastic as everyone else.Get more detail about Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black).

Cheap Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black)

I've had this phone for a few weeks and I have to say that so far I couldn't be happier.

First of all, make no mistake, this is a business phone. If you are undecided between a Nokia E72 and a Blackberry then you are on the right path. But if you are looking for a touchscreen phone (think iPhone) then you'd better look elsewhere. Of course the E72 can play videos and music beautifully (it's 600mhz processor is quite fast) but this phone is definitively business oriented.

So I will not compare this phone to an iPhone or anything similar because that would be like comparing apples to oranges. Comparing it to a Blackberry makes more sense. Well, it's definitively faster, lighter and thinner than a Blackberry. I also like the keyboard better. Actually, I absolutely love the QWERTY keyboard, it's easy on the fingers but it feels firm and well built at the same time.

Navigation improved quite a bit thanks to the tiny optical touchpad and you still have E71's directional keys if you prefer them.

As I mentioned before, the processor is quite fast and the user interface is snappy and responsive, exactly what a business user needs. I'm also surprised by the excellent battery life (several days in a row with 3.5G on).

Did I mention how thin it is? Just 0.39 inches! Even the iPhone is thicker at 0.48 inches and the Blackberry phones range between 0.53 and 0.60 inches... my E72 makes them look like burritos :) So if you care about form factor as much as I do, you're not going to be disappointed.

Finally, I don't get why some people are complaining about the build quality. I'm slightly abusive with my phones... my previous phone was an LG and it broke in no time. This phone, on the other hand, feels compact and sturdy. I haven't dropped this one yet but I've had many Nokia phones before and I know for a fact they can take a lot of damage before they stop working.Get more detail about Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black).

As many other raters have stated the features of this phone are excellent. However, the assembly quality is questionable. I purchased two of these phones both of which have dust & blemishes on the underside of the screen/faceplate which appear as dead pixels or black specks on the screen. One of the units is so bad that I am returning it for a new exchange since I really like the phone. Amazon.com has been very cooperative and is expediting the exchange. Hopefully, the new phone will not have the dust and/or blemishes like the first phone. I upgraded to the E72 from the E71 which I also purchased from Amazon.com. The E71 was blemish free.

Update:
I received my replacement unit yesterday. I am pleased to report that this unit although not perfect, is much better than the original unit.Get more detail about Nokia E72 Unlocked Phone with GPS and Free Voice Navigation -- U.S. Version with Full Warranty (Zodium Black).
