Nikon Coolpix S60 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Crimson Red) Best Quality

Since this is my ONLY camera, this goes haywire after 8 months. It shuts down every time after you take a shot, the video plays when your trying to flip the through the thumbnails, 50/50 on the quality of the pics and videos, and now I'm waiting for what else this camera has for more headaches. So I recommend this camera ONLY if you'll be getting a better camera really soon or have this camera as a back-up.
These cameras should be the next disposable cameras sold in souvenir shops because these would sell great!Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S60 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Crimson Red).

Nikon Coolpix S6000 14 MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Silver-primary) Buy Now

Don't let the size of this little fellow fool you. Although basically a point-and-shoot, this small camera produces pictures that are comparable to the bigger models.
In fact, it was a bigger model that led me to the COOLPIX S6000. I own, and love, my Nikon D300. The pictures it takes are nothing short of amazing. However, the weight and bulk of it sometimes get in the way of life. Sure you shoot pictures that are professional but there are times when you need to capture the moment but not with all the creative functionality weighing you down. That's where the S6000 shines. The Nikon technology and genius with photography are evident with the end product. True, you don't get to compensate for a lot of things and the price is a bit stiff for a second camera but it is one that you will use continually - either by itself or one that is easier to transport.

Nikon Coolpix L22 12MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Optical Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Silver) Decide Now

I had a Sony 5MP camera and a Canon 10M camera, their image quality were reasonably good. This time I decided to buy this Nikon 12MP camera. After several shots, I found out that this Nikon camera was slow, constantly a little bit out of focus, and the photos, when you zoom to 100% size, always look so blurred compared with old Canon 10MP camera. Finally decided to return. Very disappointed.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix L22 12MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Optical Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Silver).

Lowest Price Nikon Coolpix S8000 14.2 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Red)

Got this as a replacement for an earlier Coolpix camera. The features/buttons were the same, and the shutter speed and picture quality are much improved over my earlier camera. The only downside - battery life. My initial use was on a trip to Sweden, and I ran the battery down before the first full day of picture-taking. So, while I'd recommend the camera, I'd also say to buy a second battery to swap during a long day of sightseeing and picture taking!Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S8000 14.2 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Red).

Cheapest Nikon Coolpix S630 12MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Jet Black)

On my way home from work a month ago, I pulled off the road and hiked for a few hours my second hour in to my hike. I came across two Red Fox pups. I took over 30 pictures and and video maybe an hour and a half worth. Unfortionatly I didnt have my tripod with me so most of the pictures I took are a little blury. On that hike I crossed at least to sreams on downed tree's. The camera being light and not bulky helps plus if I dropped it in either one of the streams I would only been out $300.00 instead of dropping the expensive nikon d5000.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S630 12MP Digital Camera with 7x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Jet Black).

Cheap Nikon Coolpix S70 12.1MP Digital Camera with 3.5-inch OLED Touch Screen and 5x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Red)

I had frequent flier miles that were about to expire so I had to either fly or buy from one of their affiliates. I got this camera as my older Nikon had some problems due to wear and tear. I had expected high resolution pictures from the S70. What I got was extremely poor quality pictures only bigger.Reviews had mentioned this but the professional reviews rated the camera fairly favorably. I assume that the professionals only tested the camera in the lab. Picture quality at best is pretty bad. At worst, the picture is so blurry as to be impossible to tell what the subject was. A courtroom sketch would have come out better. I realize that some of this had to do with the settings and the fact that it was difficult to remember to change the settings for each shot.

Another problem had to do with the touch screen. It was almost impossible to take a picture without touching one of the icons on the screen. In some cases the picture taking process was reduced to listening to the camera constantly changing some button or other. Reviews had mentioned this but I just thought that people needed to be more careful. It's almost impossible to be careful with this camera. And you can just forget about asking someone to take a picture for you. Very bad design.

I fell with the camera protected in a case and it still broke. It appears that the CCD is mounted on silicon to reduce vibration and that must have torn. Everything on the camera still works but the colors are misaligned yielding purpleish pictures with weird lines throughout. This after only about 300 pictures on the camera. The really sad part is that I wish it had broken earlier so I wouldn't have missed some many one-chance-in-a-lifetime pictures.

Do yourself a favor and find another camera, even another Nikon.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S70 12.1MP Digital Camera with 3.5-inch OLED Touch Screen and 5x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Red).

Buying Nikon Coolpix P80 10.1MP Digital Camera with 18x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Black)

I've owned this camera for over a year now and have experienced NO problems with it whatsoever. It is jam-packed with settings and options, programmable f/stop, ISO, etc..., battery life is good, picture quality is excellent! I've taken some full-zoom shots of the full moon with this camera that came out stunning and really surprised me that I could get such great detail. If you are in the market for a camera that offers a lot of features you would expect to find on an expensive Digital SLR camera, I suggest you take a look at this one.

The only con's with this camera is that I would have loved a swiveling view screen, this would be handy. Although this is a point and shoot camera, it is styled like a DSLR camera, which makes it a little less portable than your typical point and shoot.

I take a lot of nature shots and this camera does a great job with closeups as well as distance shots. I've also filmed some hockey games with this and the sport mode does a great job of capturing the action and shooting in video mode is great too.

I would not hesitate to recommend this camera to anyone seeking my opinion.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix P80 10.1MP Digital Camera with 18x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Black).

Buy Nikon Coolpix S570 12MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Black)

After using my little nephew's Nikon S570, I've become attached. In my opinion, it's a great camera. It's easy to use and I've been getting really sharp pictures that pop out. Right now I am comparing it to the Panasonic Lumix FH20, which is also a good camera but the Nikon pictures are coming out better. I have been taking pics of the same items with both cameras and downloading them to my computer. So far, the Nikon is winning in picture quality, surprisingly. I do like the Panasonic, but think prefer the Nikon. I am going to play around with the Panasonic some more. Tomorrow I will be taking both cameras outdoors and will do a comparison. I do recommend the Nikon S570. If you go to [...] and compare it to the Nikon S3000 (a newer model), the S570 comes out the winner. However, I hear the S3000 is also a good model. I never thought I'd be praising Nikon P&S models.Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S570 12MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Black).

Purchase Nikon Coolpix S8000 14 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black)

I got this camera the day it was first available. It has terrific features including: a 10x optical zoom, vibration reduction, 14 megapixels and HD video 780p. All of this in a compact camera. There are many features you should explore including the feature packed Scene selections. I have had many point and shoots and this one is the best overall in this price range. There is a little more noise than I would like in some of the low light photos. You can adjust the settings so it doesn't use the high ISO unless you want it to. Low light photography is much easier with the Vibration Reduction feature too. Hand holding in low light is not a problem-using a flash is now not mandatory indoors.

I am very happy. Get more detail about Nikon Coolpix S8000 14 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black).

I really wanted to like this camera. The size is right, the price is right, the features are right. My problem is that I am trying to squeeze dslr quality photos and performance out of a point and shoot size camera. This camera is better than point and shoot but less than dslr. My hunt for the perfect camera will now turn to the micro four thirds products. Order Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens

As many have done in looking for just the right camera, I read everything I could find and tried out a number of DSLRs over the course of several weeks. I had certain criteria that I needed in a camera: outstanding picture quality, good low light performance, comfortable to hold, large viewfinder, a versatile kit lens, ease of use and a price of about $1,000 or less (if possible). I quickly discovered that many of the entry level models lacked one or more of these features, but the D90 (for me anyways) had all of what I was looking for. The picture quality is terrific, even though I know a good photographer can take great pictures with a lesser camera, the D90 has many features that make those of us who aren't as good as a professional much easier to get good pictures. The low light performance is amazing. The grip is quite comfortable as is the viewfinder (particularly with my eyeglasses). The range of the kit lens (18-105)is very versatile and it's a great all around lens that is very sharp at both ends and not terribly heavy either. All this at the magic price of about $1,000 made the D90 and great choice for me.Get more detail about Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens.

Buying Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens

The T1i/D500 is an awesome camera!! I sold my Nikon401S SLR camera in 1999. Since then I have used many point and shoot digital cameras and the closest I came to this basic SLR was my Canon G9. I put the T1i up against a G9 and G11. At 800 and 1600 ISO this camera came out ahead but not by much. I wish the 1080 video was at 30FPS. Do not expect this to replace your HD video cam as the focus is slow and as the lens-motor noise is recorded. You can however achieve some cool effects while making video by narrowing DOF.
The kit 18-55mm lens is not as crisp as I hoped but I plan to upgrade to the 15-85mm Canon lens soon. If you don't care to have the HD video feature go with the XSI or D450. The best part about going to this DSLR is not having to put up with the annoying shooting lag.Get more detail about Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens.

Cheapest Sony Alpha A330L 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm Lens

This is my first DSLR camera. I have spent some time looking for the perfect beginner's camera and finally decided to go with the Alpha 330. Simply a great camera and I recommend it to anyone looking an entry level DSLR. The photo quality is outstanding, the handling and ease of use make it convenient, and the price can not be matched by competition. Since I've had it for a while, I can attest to the quality of Sony's DSLR. The camera feels great in your hand. The whole thing about the grip being too small is nonsense. Once you get used to it, other cameras just feel too big. Make sure to compare features, and definitely don't listed to the Nikon / Cannon fanboys, at least don't listen blindly. Check out the features, decide what's important to you -- Best in class liveview or faster burst mode?, for example -- and then choose the camera for you. The bottom line is that Nikon and Cannon ( and other manufactures for that matter) provide wonderful products, but that is not a reason to take away from Sony, as some reviewers do. Regardless, compare features and offering from everyone competing for your business in your price range and than choose the best camera to suit your needs. In my case, Sony Alpha won hands down. I simply love it.Get more detail about Sony Alpha A330L 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm Lens.

Cheap Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 12.1 MP Live MOS Interchangeable Lens Camera with 3-Inch Touch Screen LCD and 14-42mm Lumix G VARIO f/3.5-5.6 MEGA OIS Lens (Black)

This is my first system camera, I've owned it for about two months. I'm a young mom with a young baby, and a point and shoot doesn't do it for me anymore, especially while taking photos of my little one who likes to run around and hide in dark spaces. This camera is just the ticket. It's lighter and smaller than my hubby's Olympus DSLR, so I am able to lug it around with a diaper bag and a toddler in tow. I love tweaking the manual settings, and this camera is packed with it. The touch screen (and the dedicated quick menu button) is awesome. Very useful for making quick adjustments, and with a subject that doesn't stay still, this comes in pretty handy. And I'm really loving the swivel screen, perfect for self portraits and odd angle photography. And when the camera isn't being used, just turn the screen inward so it's protected from scratches. The dedicated iA and movie buttons are really helpful too (although I never use iA myself, the rest of my family don't know how to use this camera and that's where the iA button comes in). I'm very satisfied with the images this camera produces. I've just recently learned to tweak it enough to produce sharp, crisp, bright and vibrant images that sometimes I hardly need to do any post processing.
I don't mind it not having an in-camera stabilization.. aside from the kit lens, the only other lens I use it with is the Panasonic LUMIX G 20mm f/1.7 Aspherical Pancake Lens for Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Cameras that lacks image stabilization, but I hardly get any blurred photos because that particular lens is very fast. I'm not so sure how this camera performs with other lenses.

Two things that I think may be improved:
1. The lens mount does feel plasticky, compared to other DSLRs I've borrowed, but it seems pretty sturdy.
2. Above ISO 800, I see a lot of noise.

If you are a mom like me looking to take great pictures of your kids, and like to mess around with manual settings (because this camera is complicated -- at least from a beginner's perspective), I'm pretty sure this camera will suit your needs, and I highly recommend it.Get more detail about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 12.1 MP Live MOS Interchangeable Lens Camera with 3-Inch Touch Screen LCD and 14-42mm Lumix G VARIO f/3.5-5.6 MEGA OIS Lens (Black).

Discount Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 12.1MP Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with Lumix G Vario 14-45 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Mega OIS Lens (Black)

First let me start by saying I'm not a pro photographer. Second I love this camera!!

Back on X mas last year I was looking to upgrade my regular p&s for something better, I purchase the Canon SX20 IS and I was very pleased but the camera didn't gave me the extra edge I was looking for. So I order the Canon Rebel XS a real DSLR, unfortunately I found it too cumbersome :( So the camera went back.

I'm a mother of 21/2 year old twins, and as such have a lot of gear to carry around (sippy cups, extra clothing, pacifiers, toys, etc.)So portability it's really important to me.
Well this camera, solves that: it's so portable, so light and so cool looking!! With this camera I don't have to worry about missing cool pictures of my fast moving subjects (it shoots 3 frames per second!)

I have been able to do cool effects like cotton candy looking waterfalls, shooting sunsets in low light and doing macro shots. I have purchase filters and I'm ordering my second lens soon!

The tilting LCD screen is a blesssing, I can take pictures of my kids at any angle and makes it easier to review my shots afterwards.

I highly recommend this camera fo all those who want way more than I P&S but don't want to compromise the space in the bags (or backpacks) It is the perfect camera for a family!!Get more detail about Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 12.1MP Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with Lumix G Vario 14-45 mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Mega OIS Lens (Black).

Low Price Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

The Nikon D90 is an almost perfect SLR. I still do not like Nikon's 1.5x multiplier with lens focal length, but I have gotten used to it. Unless you happen to be doing a lot of smaller room photography (which I do, as a Real Estate photographer) then this is a negligible gripe. Video and live-view are awesome additions over the D80, though for some reason I would like to see 1080p @ 30fps. I don't know why, but since it's a standard, I think it would have been easy enough for a 12.3 MP camera to include...

Other than those two small gripes everything else about the D90 is flawless. 12.3 MP is enough for one of those Big-Macs you see on the side of the McDonald's semi trucks, and unless you crop like crazy in your graphics editor, you should rarely ever need more than 6 MP. The live-view is awesome, especially if you are trying to photograph over the tops of crowds at sporting events. (Something that was impossible to get right with a D80.) The huge screen is large enough to watch the entire Star-Wars saga on. Okay, I exaggerate, but it is very beautiful. Button placement is perfect, and coupled with the literally thousands if not millions of Nikon accessories out there, it is a no-brainier. While the D90 is a very large camera, it has everything to do anything. If you are looking at cameras, please stop and just get this one. You really won't regret it.

On a side-note, I HIGHLY recommend getting a wireless remote for the D90. They are less than fifteen bucks, and allow you to take clear photos at very low ISO and slow shutter speeds, should you need to, coupled with a tripod. =)Get more detail about Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).

Lowest Price Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 12.1MP Micro Four-Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with 14-45mm Lens

Purchased this camera for it's large sensor (vs. a point and shoot), portability and highly rated image quality. Thus far this camera has exceeded my expectations. I still use my Nikon DSLR, but at this point, I'm usually reaching for the GF1 as I head out the door. If you follow the photography blogs you'll discover that many of the reviewers purchased their own cameras when they had to return their test models. This is an indication of just how great this camera really is.Get more detail about Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 12.1MP Micro Four-Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with 14-45mm Lens.

Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 MP CMOS APS-C Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Decide Now

I've had this camera for a month now. I didn't shoot a lot of pictures before with my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20/B 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization because even though it had the features, the pictures didn't look good. Well, ever since I bought this camera I've used it in one month around 7 days, compared to the previous 0 I'm amazed. This camera has reminded me that I love photography.

Panasonic DMC-GH1 12.1MP Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Camera with 1080p HD Video Order Now

Before this camera I have mainly used just point and shoots and was looking for a step up. This camera is pretty much everything I hoped for. With the single exception that the 1080p HD video is only good in some situations. At recording at 17 mbps it too little information to record lots of quick movements in full detail. Thus in those situations you get some blurring. For what's every it is worth, I have read rumors that it will be upgraded to 24 or 28 mbps in a future firmware update. So this issue could go away in the future. It still does excellent video in all situations at 720p.

As far as pictures go, the camera is very intuitive as to how to take good pictures with its many presets, but it also give you lots of room to take greater and greater control as your photography knowledge increases. I would highly recommend reading all of the owners manual if you want to get the most out of this camera. And if you are new to the more advanced world of photography, once again after you have had some time to experiment with it. Handling some of my friends DSLR's this camera is indeed much lighter and diminutive, but if you are used to a point and shoot there is certainly some added bulk. If you do also opt to also get the "Panasonic LUMIX G 20mm f/1.7 A-spherical Pancake Lens", that tiny yet high quality lens turns the camera into something that you can easily fit in a jacket or cargo shorts pocket. Keep in mind that the camera that just blows point and shoots out of the water in terms of picture and video quality. The pancake lens will also allow you to take better shots and video with low light, especially without a tripod. The kit lens only goes to f/4 in wide and f/5.3 in telephoto. Just the same the kit lens is very capable and better over all for video (basically silent AF(auto focus), and good optical zoom range), but weights more then the camera body. Which should tell you something about how light the camera itself is given its capabilities. The camera and kit lens together weight about 2lbs. Which is at least a third less to anything you will find with a DSLR and similar wide/telephoto lens combination. And the DSLR and lens won't AF while filming 1080p or 720p like this camera and lens combo will.

I bought a scandisk 16gig class 10 card along with the camera and have no problem with buffering in any of the shooting or video situations. Anything slower then a Class 10 and you probably will run into issues if you plan on shooting 1080p video with this camera.

A few other quick mentions:
*LCD screen flips out and reverse so you can see it on the lens side too (good for when using the timer function)
*TV play back features for slide shows and videos are good (include the the box is a WVGA cable, but not an HDMI cable)
*Manual said that battery was good for about 320 shots. I got 480 and I still used AFS

All in all I would recommend this camera and kit lens to anyone who wants a highly capable camera in a diminutive package.Get more detail about Panasonic DMC-GH1 12.1MP Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Camera with 1080p HD Video.

Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

This is my first full frame camera and I'm loving it! I have been using the Nikon D700 for over a week now with a variety of Nikon and non-Nikon lenses and the photo results are just superb. From moving subjects, landscape, portrait, night photography, this thing just delivers nice photos. I really liked the build quality of the D700. You would think it was built to last for many years. I was very impressed by it's focus speed and accuracy even in low light. This may be the best in it's class right now. I tried the Canon 5D Mark II and wasn't impressed and returned it after testing it for a couple of weeks. The D700 is a keeper and I'm still very happy that I stuck with it!

The users manual is helpful but I would recommend to buy a very good book to supplement the techniques in using this model. It will help you unleash all the capabilities of this fine DSLR.

If you want a full frame camera that won't break the bank and deliver class leading focus performance and excellent image quality you won't go wrong with the D700.

Where To Buy Sony Alpha A380L 14.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm Lens

I am a photographer-wannabe graphic and web designer.
I have taken this product to photoquests where I've subjected it to different types of landscapes, light and climate situations -- even some soft rain.
So far it has behaved beautifully with good battery life, fast enough recording speeds and good image quality even on its lowest settings.
The lens work good, but have had trouble trying to get long distance pictures (not enough optical zoom) but it was to be expected, and can easily be fixed by attaching adequate lenses for said purpose.

Only issue may be with the LCD screen, as it tends to get scratches on its surface ratter easily, so I'd suggest you get some sort of cover for it (I haven't been able to find it where I live - Colombia, Southamerica). Guess I'll have to buy it through Amazon too.

Can't really give much more advice as I am just a n00b at this stuff, but I can tell you this camera has opened a new door in my head and career I think won't be closed for the foreseeable future.
Excellent product if you're just learning, I'll let you know if it keeps up.Get more detail about Sony Alpha A380L 14.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm Lens.

Shop For Nikon D300s 12MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

Love this camera. Very rugged and fast AF. Did not like the video but I hardly use it anyways. Canon is much better with video. The dual card is fantastic. Drawbacks are its weight and size. I love the D90 for its size but it is not as rugged as this camera.

Great for hikes and outdoors.Get more detail about Nikon D300s 12MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only).

Order Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver)

I love this camera now, even though it is a dinosaur in terms of its age in a world where technology advances rapidly.

When I first bought this camera in 2007, it had early problems freezing and giving error codes. After performing all the recommended tests & resets, it kept failing. I actually used the camera very little early on and, thus, forgot about the errors. Once I started using the camera regularly again and taking more still photos, I had run out of warranty coverage. So, it cost me a few hundred send the camera back to Canon to repair what was a manufacturing and/or chipset defect.

Once the repair was made, the camera operated flawlessly and still does to this day. Although this model is no longer current, I wanted to add my review for anyone who might be trying to buy one used. Be aware that this model had known issues with freezing as I mentioned above. If that has been repaired, then it is an otherwise excellent camera for the entry-level or intermediate SLR user.Get more detail about Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver).

Looking forward to toting my camera and all the associated gear on an expedition to the Amazon Rainforest next March ... will post results and reviews after that again. Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera with 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF VR Nikkor Zoom Lens Best Quality

I am no expert photographer. I am an amateur, at best, and lucky at worst. Why on earth did I buy the D700? I was looking to update my very old 3 megapixel Canon, which was wonderful, but a bit old and beat up. Besides, I had matured past it in my photography. As I do before most any major purchase, I read about my options. There were many "in-between" cameras that would have worked just fine, however I desired the full size sensor. Eventually, I chose the Nikon D700. I knew that it was a bit beyond my skills. I also knew that there was a lot of room to grow with this camera. I made a good choice. The controls and functions are easy to use and personalize. I haven't quite grasped the finer techniques of the master photographer, but that will come in time. I see this as a good long term investment. I chose Nikon because of their superb glass quality, however the lens in this kit fails to display that. Bottom line: Buy the camera, but buy a new lens.Get more detail about Nikon D700 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera with 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF VR Nikkor Zoom Lens.

Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens + 8GB Deluxe Accessory Kit Get it now!

Really happy with the purchase of this camera! It was rated a 'Best Buy' with Consumer Reports and offers everything that even a semi-pro photographer might want or need. I was looking for an above-average digital camera to be able to take my own photos for our company's web site. I figured I might have to pay the same price or more for a professional to take them. This way I could set my own time-frame for shooting with no appointments to meet and now I have the camera to boot! The company building our web site was quite impressed by the quality of our photos, too. This purchase was a good decision for us.Get more detail about Nikon D5000 12.3 MP DX Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens + 8GB Deluxe Accessory Kit.

Sony Alpha A230Y 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses Buy Now

My original intention was simple: purchase a reasonably priced digital camera without video that included, in one lens, an adequate wide angle and generous telephoto capacity. The megazooms neatly fulfilled these requirements. However, their poor picture quality and video feature eliminated them from consideration. So, I explored the entry level DSLR category and eventually bought the A230 two lens package which I have owned for about a month. The experience has been both satisfying and frustrating. Picture quality is pretty good but, the 55-200 zoom doesn't extend far enough. The purchase of a longer lens maybe necessary.

Pros: Good picture quality, helpful LCD screen graphic display, comfortable small grip.
Cons: No live view, slow continuous shooting.

I would recommend the A230 to beginners and advanced amateurs making the transition to a DSLR camera.Get more detail about Sony Alpha A230Y 10.2 MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot INSIDE Image Stabilization and 18-55mm and 55-200mm Lenses.

Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black (Body Only)

Ever since I started using a Canon camera (the old F model of the late Sixties), I have followed the rule that it is better to spend one's money on good glass than slightly better body quality. I chose this model over the XSi because of the price difference. The two megapixels more was not worth the $155.00 extra to me, and a year of use confirms my decision. As does the comparison by Bob Atkins. The dollars I saved went to buying a 7D this year, a major body quality upgrade, and the dollars saved from buying that rather than a 5D are going toward another first class lens. Make no mistake, this is a first class camera for almost any kind of photography. It is five star quality all the way across the board, and I recommend it highly to anyone on a tight budget.Get more detail about Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black (Body Only).

I bought Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP Digital SLR Camera kit together with Opteka Battery Pack Grip kit (with Charger, 2 LP-E5 Batteries (3600 mAh Total), Wireless Remote, Cleaning Kit, & Mini Tripod). I seemed to have unlimited shooting power even with hours performance recording (change 2-battery set once). They are very good product designs and features. The only thing I hope to change so far is quick zoom in and out like camcode during recording instead of physically turnning the lens to bring subject closer.Get more detail about Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Black) with Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS + 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 Zoom Lens + 16GB Card + LP-E5 Battery + Case + Accessory Kit.

Buy Sony Alpha DSLR-A300K/N 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Gold)

This is my first DSLR, and I am very happy with it. I was looking into getting the Sony Alpha 330, but after doing research I found the the 330 actually has less features(it is lacking a port for a shutter release remote, manual white balance adjustment, and less buttons that make key features much harder to change) and is just simply smaller. So the 300 is really the same as the 330 with more features, and if you do some shopping, much cheaper(in my case over $100). Overall the 300 is a great camera but does have its pros and cons as all cameras.

Pros:
Live View-the live view system that sony uses is probably the best live view system on the market as it does not pause to capture the image. I love the live view, it saves me a ton of time using manual settings messing with aperature and exposure. My girlfriend has a 200 and spends a lot of time playing with settings and taking test photos. The live view is also very nice if you have glasses as well.

Image stabilization in camera-This is very nice because you don't have to shell out big bucks for image stablized lenses like with canon and nikon.

Uses Minolta Maxxim lenses-the ability to use Minolta Maxxim lenses means there is a ton of affordable used glass out there, many that are unchanged from the current sony offerings.

Takes good images-The 300 has a nice balance of speed and image quality.

Flip up/flip down lcd- Awesome feature that is usually only found in higher end cameras.

Cons:
High noise at ISO over 400- I won't shoot at ISO over 400 because of the noise.

Smart teleconverter-This feature is a neat idea but is nothing more than digital zoom and degrades the image so you really can't crop afterwards if you use this feature.

Lcd screen sticks out-The screen sticks out quite a bit when folded in, not a huge deal but will smudge from your face if you use the OFV, I would suggest the lcd screen protector made by sony so you don't scratch the screen.

Overall the Sony 300 is a great camera for the money, you get a lot more for less money then you would with some other manufacturers offerings.
