I logged on to review this because I was so angry and irritated, only to find another review stated exactly what I was going to say! We too, have purchased the Christmas Gingerbread house for the past 3 years for my now 5 year old. He literally spends hours decorating the houses. I thought this was going to be just as much fun for him. However, it has been nothing but frustrating for me. Rarely do I get so upset at something that I want to cry and just throw a project away, but I am at that point. I asked my son if he could just decorate the pieces of gingerbread like cookies...of course he said no. So, here I am back trying to "glue" this house together for the third time (first time just fell apart, second time I used the wrong sides...see below). It does not have a wonderful little plastic tray that everything fits into like the Christmas house. Furthermore, I DO NOT like mixing my own icing. After I got the BLACK icing in the decorator bag,the seam blew out. I tried to salvage as much icing out of the bag that I could, but most of it went in the trash. There is icing all over my counter, my fingers, and my clothes! What a mess. Thankfully, I have extra decorating bags. After an hour of setting up the house, I went back to put the roof on only to find that I used the wrong sides (no instructions included of how to put together, you are on your own)! So, here I am with very little black icing left, my son lost interest within the first 5 minutes because he really cannot help put the actual house together, and now we are waiting for it to dry for another hour before he can decorate it! I thought this costume was really cute in the picture. I have an 11 month old female golden retriever, not yet fully grown, so to be sure it would fit I ordered the XL. It absolutely did NOT fit. It was way too short, so the tail of the skunk was laying on the middle of her back. The front fit alright around her head but because the costume was too short overall, it kept pulling back thus the skunk ears were on my dog's neck. There also isn't enough velcro to secure the costume onto the dog and the one velcro strap that goes under the belly was too big. I could not keep the costume on my dog at all while she was walking around.

I have had this camera for over a year and a half now. Day time shots outside of still objects are great quality, as are close up shots. However, the flaws start to show when you try to take shots of moving objects. No matter what setting you use or how many functions you change it is not possible to capture action shots as the shutter is so slow!

My major problem with this camera comes when I try to take indoor night time pics. It is impossible to use this camera without the flash as every picture turns out dark and blurry. Again, I have tried every setting and function to remedy this to no avail. The only option is to use the auto flash which is absolutely blinding!!!! It kills all the atmosphere in the shot, as well as resulting in complaints from everyone that they have spots before their eyes! There is no chance of getting any candid shots with this camera. Even using the auto flash, the camera is so slow to actually take the shot. It is quite frustrating.

The other auto-settings on this camera (e.g. sports, party, snow etc) are pretty useless. Believe me, I have experimented with them and every other setting in every situation to no avail. I am really disappointed with this camera, particularly with the shutter speed (regardless of what settings you change) and the flash quality. As a one time semi-pro photographer, I wanted to get into digital photography from a "real" standpoint. While there are many good camera brands, you just don't go wrong with Nikon. When I was shopping for a camera, I was extremely finicky. I wanted something that took great pictures (obviously), had manual controls (i was just starting to get into photography at the time), and was very portable (if you can't take it everywhere, what good is it?).

I spent months and months online reading reviews, shopping around, and decided on this camera. It has certainly delivered.

Display: I've never really had a problem using the display in all but the brightest sun. The viewfinder's there if you need it, too, which is nice. I would love it if it was a through-the-lens viewfinder, but it's not; it shows what's in front on the viewfinder, rather than what's in front of the lens, and can't adjust for zoom. This is a really minor complaint though, as I've really never had much trouble with the display.

Ease of use: The auto mode on this camera works great. The special scene modes are great. (That covers ease-of-use for amateurs-- you can easily take great pictures with this camera even if you never touch any of the manual controls.) If you're more knowledgeable, the camera has full manual, aperture, shutter, and program modes too. As someone who's shopped around, I can tell you this is really hard to find in a camera that's this size and price. All of the controls feel intuitive and I've always found it easy to find everything I need. If I could change one thing here, I wish the camera would remember settings that I'd changed after I've turned it off and on again. For instance, I almost never use the flash, but every time I turn it on, I have to turn the flash off again.

Features: Features. Hmm. This camera has every shooting mode I could ever need, manual controls, a FLASH HOTSHOE, *and* can accommodate additional lenses? Ok, so it doesn't come with on-board GPS like the P6000, but other than that, I can't think of a feature I would ever want that this camera doesn't have. Oh, and the vibration reduction's great too. I've been able to take shake-free pictures with shutter speeds up to 1 or 2 seconds handheld if I steady myself on something. This is really nice for shooting in low-light or at night. Complaint: the flash. The flash on this camera is bad. It's not very powerful and most pictures taken with it come out looking unnatural. I think it also sometimes gets the shadow of the lens, which is odd. Then again, if this really mattered, I could always buy an external flash. It hasn't really bothered me, but it has turned me into a natural-light purist. Vibration reduction really helps with this.

On the negative side, don't even try to take pictures of kids playing sports with this thing. It has a mode for it, but I wouldn't recommend it. The camera seems a little too slow to respond for this sort of thing. The high ISOs are really grainy, too. I like to set it at ISO 64-100 and take pictures of fairly stationary things. If this isn't for you, you might want to consider a slightly more nimble little camera.

Picture quality: Picture quality is stellar. Really. Occasionally, I see pictures taken with a professional DSLR and say, "Wow, I don't think I could do that with my camera," but short of being a DSLR, this thing can take really amazing pictures. The 12MP also make it easy to crop things way down and find a more impressive photo hidden within an otherwise dull one.

Portability: It's not as small as some digital cameras made these days, but it's still easily purse/pocket-sized (bulgy pocket, but still). For all the features this thing holds, it seems downright miniscule.

If you can't tell already, I highly recommend this camera. I took mine in for repair the other day (fell off a table and got a lens error. :( otherwise, has been very durable, though.) and, after quoting me the price for the repair, the woman in the camera store said that whether it was worth it or not depended on how much I paid for it and how much I love it. I think I was blushing a little as I told her, "It's worth it."

Anyhow, I love the video ability of the Nikon and its ease of use with everything else. I DO like the AA battery vs. lithium battery; I lose the lithium batteries and they cost my too much to replace. I WOULD sell my Nikon for a very inexpensive rate if I could buy a new one exactly the same; or I'd barter it out along with whatever, for a new, unopened perfect Nikon CoolpixL19 8MP. This camera (DMC-FH20) is everything I expected and more. I am totally happy with it. I bought it mainly for the 8x optical zoom. I didn't expect the Extended optical Zoom of 67.5x since it is not mentioned anywhere except in the manual that comes with the camera. The 14mp resolution is nice but not important unless you intend to print wall sized photos. I use the camera at a 3mp setting and everything comes out well. If you are looking for a little cost savings consider the DMC-FH1. I am a fan of Nikon and love my D40x and thought I would like a small Nikon point and shoot for a recent trip where I did not want to risk damage to my DSLR. I was not happy with the experience. The Coolpix L20 is very difficult to use in anything but full auto. Low light exposure is grainy and very sensitive to movement. Shutter controls are menu driven and hard to get to in a short time situation. Overall versatility did not come close to my Kodak EasyShare V550 by any comparison. Camera has some problems finding focal point under many conditions and I found that (in my opinion) the camera is only useful on bright sunny days and even then the photos are sometimes out of sharp focus. I'd ordered this camera as a starter camera for my 10 year old son to take with him on holiday. After explaining how it works to him, I handed over the camera, rechargeable battery and charger to him. A week later, we complained that the battery was draining out too fast. I tried it ad found that the battery was indeed draining rapidly. I'm using two brand new Sanyo Ni-Mh 2100 batteries which drain out in the camera if left for 4 days! I even tried regular supermarket batteries but with similar disappointment.

I purchased this camera back in December of 2009 from a local camera store, after a couple of months of using it I have three words... PIECE-OF-CRAP!!! Honestly I don't really know where to begin...

Picture Quality (or lack a there of)

For a 10 Megapixel camera, I found the picture quality to be pretty lousy. My 5 Megapixel Kodak point-and-shoot which I purchased a few years ago takes way sharper images. Overall I found a lot of the pictures that I took with this camera to be lackluster (dull, grainy) You would think that for a 10 Megapixel camera with 12 times optical zoom, the pictures should be unbelievably crisp and clear. Clearly not the case with this camera.

Battery Life (again, or a lack there of)

This thing goes thought batteries like mad, when using this camera it is a good idea to invest in some rechargeable batteries. The camera is also very picky about the batteries that you put in, if even one battery you put in becomes slightly weak, it will have a problem. There is no battery level indicator anywhere on this camera, the only thing that even comes close it a big red flashing battery icon in the middle of the screen, right before your camera stops working.

Video Quality (once again, or a lack there of)

The video on this camera is absolutely terrible, even in supposed "High Res" mode, it still looks pretty grainy. My 10 year old VHS video camera has better video quality. The audio is pretty bad as well; basically all you can hear is the sound of the lens loudly grinding in and out of focus, because for some reason the engineers at Fuji thought it would be cute for the video to have an "Auto-focus". For a 10 Megapixel camera, one would expect much better video quality.

Bells and Whistles

Don't be fooled by all the bells and whistles that the seller mentions in the description of this product, let's face it, honestly only a couple you are really going to ever use.
The manual that came with the camera was pretty lousy, all it said basically was how to hold the camera and where the button was to take a picture, and that's about it! Your are pretty much left to figure out everything on your own, and basically for the first couple of weeks all you pictures will be nothing but trial and error.
Another thing that really bugs me about this camera is that even when the camera is in "Manual", I found that many times that camera will actually "fight" with you when you are trying to set a certain shutter speed and aperture setting. For example you change the shutter speed, and for some reason the camera (even thought it is in "Manual"), will change the aperture on you, messing up the built in light meter. Which can be really frustrating, especially when you need a specific shutter speed or aperture setting.
The "Auto-Focus" on this thing is really, really, really annoying, sometimes you will be taking a picture of something, and have the camera all set up and in focus, then right when you take a picture, for some reason that's when the "Auto-Focus" kicks in and brings everything out of focus.
The "Auto mode" is pretty ridiculous, I found the especially near sun-rise or sun-set the pictures for some reason come out over-exposed.

Conclusion

My only advice is "DONT BUY THIS CAMERA!!!", you are much, much, much better off spending $100 or $200 more on something that you can actually take half decent pictures with. Personally I think Fuji should actually think for once what I photographer would want in a camera, instead of just what some group of engineers want in a camera. I'm just going to give basic views here because there are a lot of great reviews.

I've already taken several thousand photos with this camera and am very pleased with the daylight shots. It excels in good light at ISO 100 to 400. I've set the color enhancement to vivid as I've done with my Canons and the colors come out rich and beautiful! If too much color or I want B&W, I make changes via iPhoto - a very simple process. The photos are crisp, clean and the camera focuses quickly and very well.

Low light situations will require a tripod and some manual adjustments. If it goes over ISO 400, the noise is miserable and the photo is virtually worthless. To avoid that, you will need to use a tripod , which I have only done a couple times since my Canon S2IS does a better job in low lights.

The GPS does take some time to obtain a signal so does not work right away. When it works, it works very well. To that end, I can just add the basic location data to the photos that are missing the information through my software when I download the photos to iPhoto. It's not difficult but can be time consuming. Sadly, I think this was Nikon's first and last consumer level GPS enabled camera. They should have worked on improving it instead of only developing the one model.

The pop-up flash works fine. I've seen some complaints about it but I have no issues and find it adequate in normal situations.

Movie mode is a great disappointment. The microphone does not pick up sound very well and the video quality is just ok. My Canon S2IS does stereo recording and allows the full use of the 10x optical zoom lens during video recording. This newer camera appears to only allow digital zoom. Oh well.

Overall, I love this camera and have no regrets and will keep it for a long time. Nikon, if you had continued to develop the GPS in your models, you would have been on to something great. As it stands, I'm switching again to add the new Sony HX5V to my collection (we always carry two cameras) so that there will be two with GPS. D70 Digital Camera (Body Only) Get it now!

I have been a Canon user for about three years now. My Canon Xti has not let me down yet. I kept hearing and reading all these good reviews on Nikon DSLRS. I originally was going to get a Nikon, but for some reason didn't. Anyways, after reading, i decided just to take a chance with one. I was recommended the d70 or d50 as a starter Nikon. I just bought a used Nikon body(wonderful condition BTW) just in case i really didn't like it. The first i noticed when i took the camera out was the Body's size. Comparing to my Canon XTI, the body is larger, but feels much stronger and better made. I actually don't shake as much when i hold the Nikon compared to the Canon. When it's comes to the battery life, it seems very well. As for options and functions, it's laid out very well, and not diffcult to use. The screen is a good bit smaller than my Canon, but that is ok. I'm getting use to it. Now, as for the white balance, the Nikon takes the cake. Canons are more on the warm white balance and if you want to make it normal/neutral, you sometimes have to set a custom white balance(Especially indoors). I didn't have to do that with the Nikon yet. I just set it to whatever correct white balance and it's pretty accurate. That's a plus. The colors are very nice too, but i'll be able to fully tell as time goes. I read a couple of negatives that i may be able to help out with: I read there is a blueish tint when taking pics indoors with the flash. This is probably because you have the wrong white balance set. Also i read the light meter is off. This is true, but as another reviewer stated, "Read the book and you'll understand it better." I think some people need to understand their cameras better before just posting negative statments about it. I got an earlier version of this camera, the S550, to take to England to see crop circles. I have a Nikon D70 which I used to take, but that was a lot of weight in my luggage and hiking around the fields of Wiltshire county.
10 megapixels is almost twice the resolution of the D70 (I now have a D90) so I still came home with great photos! I also discovered that I could shoot video of the crop circle I was in by mounting the camera on the end of my walking stick, starting the camera shooting video and raising it up over my head, and once I perfected my aim, I was able to get a video panorama of the formation from about 12' up - awesome!
Anyway, good small camera, Nikon quality, high resolution, good price - is that enough for you?
BTW, I moved up to the S560 because it now has a micro-USB connector, so you don't have to use the clunky connector that came with the S550.
