Only being an amateur photographer of sorts I wanted to ease into the field with a solid easy to use camera that didn't skimp on the features. I purchased mine on ebay used for an extremely good price so I may be a bit biased here. However, prior to that I did do a lot of research and found this along with one other from Nikon to be the best for my needs. In the end I focused more on Canon due to the lens selection and the numerous other canon products such as printers and papers that'd make compatibility less of a hassle.
Works great with Windows XP. And recently found it just as easy to work with Windows 7 (32-Bit) by simply setting it to P2P in the menu section.
